I have an old rivers edge climber that I really like. Both of the cables that go around the tree are junk, and they dont make replacement cables for this anymore.

Any Suggestions on homemade cables or solutions?

I am all for fixing and re-using stuff instead of buying new, but in this case I agree 100% buy a new stand. Look on Craigslist... cheaper & more selection at the end of the season but you might get lucky.

Shoot even a guide gear stand is gonna be safer than trying to fab something if not experienced. We've used em for years and no problem as long as you use the small platform ones, large ones creek and pop.

I love Hawk hang ons more and more and will add more of them as well.

Sit on a stool 20ft up a tree or sit in a recliner 20 ft up a tree. Full seat > bar stool.

Viper SD for me if you see looking for a climber. Millenium with full seat (m100 I think) if you need a lock on.

As far as diy for your stand, there are times when biting the bullet is better than saving a $1.i think this is one of those times

To clarify I am talking about the Alpha lock on and the Alpha hand climber. My sit and climb is pretty darn comfortable
