I have an old rivers edge climber that I really like. Both of the cables that go around the tree are junk, and they dont make replacement cables for this anymore.

Any Suggestions on homemade cables or solutions?

I would buy a Summit Viper. I own four Lonewolf stands and a millennium lock on and I still reach for my Summit Viper every time for ease-of-use and comfort. If you have climbable trees check out the Viper.

Sounds like it's time to retire the old stand.

I wouldn't rig something to replace the cables because your life is riding on whether they function properly or not. They might work the first few times you try them, but it's just not worth it.

I have a Summit Viper I use a few times a year and it's so comfortable I could fall asleep in it if I let myself. I'm sure the LoneWolfs are good, too, but I haven't tried them yet. Also, it sounds like you use a stand for quite a while so you should probably pick up a couple sets of replacement cables when you buy it so you'll have them in the long run.
