Wondering if anyone else names their stands..... Seems easier to talk about what is going on where when talking with your hunting buddies. That and if someone is going to be out there with you to know where you're going. Heres some of mine. the observatory- sit and watch all the pretty deer everywhere else but around you the runway- trail about the size of a runway leading to bean field buddy stand- it's a buddy stand the arena- big cirlce of nothing surrounded by a ridge of woods (cool stand) tripod- its a tripod hatfield- from hatfield vs. mcoys... problems with neighbors and it's close to them rite o way- sits on a rite o way between properties (the good neighbor) gas line- sits on a gas line hornets nest- big hornets nest i ran into while setting stand old rickety- self explanatory far enough- away from an occupied dwelling even closer - but still far enough the ridge- ummm sits on a ridge beaver dam- next to beaver dam cornfield- next to cornfield ring of death- circle around the stand of deer the incident- id rather not talk about it junkyard- tires and old equipment near it apples- apples there the brook- near a brook pear tree- in a pear tree hmmmm now that i think about it they are pretty boring and name themselves lol

Some of my favorites are; The droptine, the white rock, the gate stand, the walnut, the creek stand, the north condo, etc.
We have the "Porta Potty" stand from which we have killed countless deer. It's an old PP with windows cut in it. It can be very noisy, but it is warm and out of the wind on those rare cold and blustery days down south.
-Amsterdam: because my buddy snuck a blowup doll up in my stand stand one time I bought a blow up rattle snake to get him back but on a 20' ladder stand I decided against it. -Kneeling Room: because it has a lot of cypress knees. -Hog land: because...well you get it. -Fern Garden: Lots of fern on the ground. -Black Eye: because a guy spun the feeder on me when I was still checking the timer and I thought I'd lost an eye -First Kill: because it was the stand we first killed something on the property.
-Blue light -Zig Zag -Way back -The killing tree -Mill path ditch -Posion pine -Old tire -New tire -Doe bottom -Grey line -Ridge stand -The go far stand -Beechnut ladder
my favorite is the one i call mount olympus. Its on top of a GIANT hill practically at a 65 degree angle for a few hundred yards.. i also name the bucks after greek gods. I think its pretty creative
-The tree I shot the 10 Pointer From -The stand in the Cedar at the Farm -The swamp at the Ochard -Down by the brook -On top of the hill just before the ridge I use a climber mostly so its hard to name my stands, I guess. I normally just use general areas.
Fox Hollow- A hollow we call Fow Hollow. The gas well- An area close to a gas well. Slab pile point- A big point that has an old pile of slabs at the base of it. The clear cut - Its an old clear cut. The beaches- A big stand of beach trees. Chimney Hollow- A hollow that has an old stack of rocks in the shape of chimney at the head of it. The double tanks- An area that has 2 tanks.
Head High stand- was an old permanent stand about 6' off the ground there many years ago, now its a ladder stand but the name stuck Coon log stand- a buddy stand that is always covered in raccoon feces that has to be cleaned off before you sit down The high 5- hang on that is about 28 feet in the tree. My uncle hung it and bragged out the whopper he was going to kill. He took a 5 pointer lol Most of my other stands are just ladders that haven't earned a name yet.
Point-at the tip of a finger of woods that goes into the field Bottom of the point- at the bottom of that finger Metal stand- metal ladder stand Food plot-over a little food plot in the middle of the woods Oak flat- a big oak flat at the top of a big valley Across the creek-across a big creek Dons stand-a buddy hung the stand and his name is don Ervin's-close to a guy name Ervin Mobile deer killer-a blind built on an old boat trailer so we can move it around Valley of death-we have killed a lot of deer there
I'm going to write mine and post before I read everyone else's so I don't forget mine! These are from the land I primarily hunt from. Old Reliable - Someone always gets a deer out of this stand Island - No idea why it's called this Creek Bottom - obvious Little/Big - Has a little and big stand in the same tree Gate - by a gate Ridge - on the top of the ridge Hole - By a watering hole Top field - in the top field Diet Coke - entranced marked by a diet coke bottle (my dad's idea) haha Turnip Field - obvious Gorilla - It's a gorilla stand Wolf - It's a lone wolf stand Maple - In a maple tree I'm pretty sure I'm missing about 8 other ones that are on the land but I don't have the list in front of me and my memory is failing me, it's Friday and my brain is shutting down. Have a new property this year I'm trying out too, so it only has two stands and a blind so far. One stand is in a dried up creek bed, the other on the edge of a field, the blind is at the top of a hill by a fence. I haven't named them yet...any suggestions? The funnier the better.
Some I've hunted over the years: Love Nest Nose Bleed The Hilton Apple Tree The Bottom Stand Log Cabin 4 Corners The Lake Stand
Got a laugh out of the Amsterdam (good call on not doing the snake, I would have fallen backwards) and Black Eye (sorry, I have a weird sense of humor). Am loving reading everyone's stand names. Pretty neat. Would be fun to sit around and tell stories about some of the more creative names and deer shot out of them.
Cool post. Stand names like these are always fun to use when you're hunting with someone new or a new member to the hunting group- you start rattling off the stand names or where you're going to sit and they look at you like they have no idea what you're talking about. Some of ours are: The Meadow Beaver Pond The Highchair Cheryl's Corner River Stand Big Windy
