I'm normally 20ft up the tree but I have one spot that I have to climb to 30ft.

Ditto Duke, I'm not going to 40 foot EVER! Not too mention the shot angle that that creates.

You guys that do it, great...But I'm not going!

As high up as I need to be, preferably in some kind of cover or with a good background.

I put a stand up last Friday at about 10'. It will be a downhill shot and I'll have great cover. Cover matters more than hieght in most cases I think.

Typically I'm around 18, but have probably hunted as low as 12 & up to 25-26. I don't measure anymore I jsut go to where i need to, but I'm likely not ever to go over 30, that's just crazy to me.

LOL Mike. Thing is, I'd imagine buckeye is more of a flat lander than you. :d I've never been 40' but I've been over 30'. The tree and spot demanded it. :d

I go as high as I need but it is pretty rare to go above 20ft.

This is exactly why... You could also intercnage downwind with thermal as well...

There are times I may be up 40" but only 15 feet above the trail or bench I am hunting.

Some people aren't good with heights, they do not bother me one bit. It is flat here where I live but very steep in all the other areas I hunt South of me.

With no other real variables, I settle in about 22-24 feet, but that rarely happens, I have been as high as 35-37ish in a tree that was set off a field to the ravine side. I was 18-20 feet up as far as field level went. My highest set as it stands right now is close to 30. I hung one the other day that didn't break 20 though.
