If I had to guess, Steve, I'd say that he does it to make SURE it's an accurate, quick kill shot. A marginal hit on a rainy day is a recipe for disaster.

Not if there's still a lot of leaves on the trees or if it's a cloudy, rainy day. If it's late season and the leaves are all off the trees I'll put it up when I actually need it and take it down when I don't.

I will probably be using mine on Friday. I bought it last year and have never used it. They are calling for some decent rain between noon and four on Friday. I will let you know how it goes.

Well, after looking at the thread all day, and looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow and next week, i broke down and bought one. The bad thing is, no place around here had one of the little screw in fold open one, they just had the big metal frame one. Well considering my vacation starts tomorrow and runs all thru next week, I bought it anyways. I am not missing a day of hunting, but would much rather stay dry instead of wet, figure I will carry it in and just leave it up/move it as needed. It is gonna be a pain in the butt taking it in in the morning, but will probably be happy i did when that rain is really coming down. Looks like it is supposed to calm down between 10-1, so maybe that will be a good time to see movement.

The only ones I've seen screw into the tree. Illegal on state land in Pa so I never bought one.

I love mine. I just leave it up all the time. It probably won't make it through the day though. 40+ mph winds.

I've been preaching the tree umbrella to people for years. Some folks have the audacity to make fun of me however when I'm cozy and dry in my stand and they're soaked to the bone I'll be the one laughing.

I used mine last year on a day that it rained all day and it turned out to be one of the best days of the year!
