    Hey guys,
So about a month ago I put a ladder stand in a spot that is pretty much in a little opening area in a bedroom area. However, this tree the stand is in is perfect for cover but the tree is huge and there is no way my safety harness strap or rope style tree stap will fit around the tree to strap in.

Have any of you just used a ratchet strap around the tree and then just clip into? Most ratchet straps Ive seen, on the label they say they are rated for like 3000 pounds but I know there is a difference based if a person falls and if it can handle the shock. Any suggestions?

That's usually a working weight and not actually a load weight. I know weight is weight but when ur dropping and putting stress on something it's not intended to do then there's a great chance it's going to fail. I'm a ropes specialist for the Fire Department and I know I wouldn't trust my life with a ratchet strap. Just my 2cents. On the other hand HSS makes a assent/dissent rope that would be plenty long and string. I just stay clipped into mine when using my lock on stands. Hope this helps

Can you screw into the tree? You could make a anchor point to the tree like in rock climbing. Also any 1/2" static climbing line will work as a tether. I think the rule is 10x the working weight limit. So if your 300 lbs, that would mean a 3000 lbs ratchet strap will work. I May have to check on that though.

Also I forgot. You can take 2 of the straps that come with the stands and put them together to make 1 big strap.

Thanks guys for all the input. Do not really have the funds to go and buy a lifeline. I'm gonna check more into the weight rating on some of the ratchet straps I have at home. I have some pretty heavy duty ones.

I dont remember, but I think there was some pretty big branches coming off this tree that I might just be able to put my normal strap on it instead of going all the way around the tree.

$40 life line or a $40,000 hospital bill? Just saying

That's only a six foot ....if you needed something to fit a bigger tree that probably wasn't a good choice

I didn't specifically buy it for this stand. I bought it because I use my climber and lone wolf hang on the most

I would prefer a rope over a ratchet strap. There are places like REI that sell climbing rope by the foot. Might be a good option for you.
