I had a deer hunter last night say to me "I don't use ground blinds, they smell me".

What are your preferences??? Pro's and con's.

They both have a place in the woods. I dont believe a ground blind will be smelled anymore than a stand as long as you give it some time in mother nature to get the new smell off of it. In different situations, they both are good.

I only use blinds on rainy days. Obviously people kill deer all the time from blinds however if you are capable of using a tree stand they are the way to go. Deer are less likely to see or smell you in a stand and you are more likely to see them coming from farther away with an elevated line of sight. One tip if you use a blind put it out early so the deer get used to it and if you only open on side of it wear all black to blend with the back of it.

Blinds I usually only use when gun hunting. I'm a firm believer in the high I get the better my odds "smell wise".

Both serve different purpose's sometimes you cant get a climber/hang on in the spot you want so you gotta go with a blind. As long as it's concealed and you use something like earth cover scent you will be fine.

I have used Ground blinds for Turkey season and have had deer walk right past me. Scared the crap out of me.
I have a Summit Viper and would not trade it for anything. I love being able to bounce around day to day according to patterns.
I have sat in a corn field unprotected and have had deer walk with in 15 yards of me.
Depends on the Terran and weather I guess. I use Ground blinds when its windy or raining. Climbers every day if the weather is good.

Use both....consider all the variables and then use what will work the best in a given situation. They both have their strengths and weakness so it shouldn't be an either or choice.

I have to disagree with this, I feel you are more likely to get sniffed out in a stand then i ground blind. Like you said if you close your back windows. there is basically no air flow and your scent shouldnt be carried by the wind what so ever. Also at a distance your more at risk getting spotted in a tree stand since the FOV is bigger. where as in a ground blind with your back windows closed up and wearing dark clothes. You should not be spotted at all. and with the mesh shoot through windows you shouldnt have anything to worry about. With the mesh windows you can spray them with cover scent to mask any of your smell that does escape. Tree stands expose you to any sudden wind swirl that could get you busted at any moment.

For me it depends on where i'm going to hunt(dedicated tree stand vs just popping up my blind)/how i feel. If i feel kind of fidgety(sore back or tense muscles), i'll go to my blind.

Prefer a treestand of some type but not afraid to use a blind either. Like the poster above, I have had deer waolk vedry close to me while in a blind..Tureky or Deer Hunting. But, I like the vantage point of a treestand better. I have some leases where the only way you can hunt is on ground or from a blind due to the fact that there are no decent trees in the area.

Agree..... A place for everything.. Personally, I enjoy being pearched on the side of a tree 20 feet in the air and having deer walk right under me not knowing I am there.. I feel like I am somewhere I am not supposed to be and they don't know it.. But I will run to a ground blind of a cold rainy day.. LOL

I'm not a big fan of the ground blind just because I'm tall. You are also limited on vision in a lot of areas in a ground blind. I like getting up in a tree so I can see more. Better vantage point. I would think the scent would be better up in the air too, but I suppose a ground blind can contain your scent with windows shut and use of other smells as said before. I like being able to see as much as possible. I also feel you can hear better in a tree then in something contained.
