Just wanted to know what tree stand (if any ppl) would recommend. I am pushig over the 300 LB mark after the winter season I would like to know if there any stand out there made for the bigger hunter? Or should I just get a ground blind (and a rag on a stick to wash the areas I cant reach int the shower). BTW I have never hunted from a stand. I am new to archery and have not hunted with a bow yet. I have always hunted with powder burners and always just posted up on the ground (no blind) were I have a good field of veiw think I would not be seen.
This stand is the biggest and most comfortable I've ever been in. I'm 6'1" and can pretty much recline in it! Not sure of the weight rating, I'd guess 300? http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003VJS6SU
I'm 6'0 roughly and push 265-275 depending on my winter coat. I recently bought the Summit Titan SD ($329) rated for 350#, granted its an expensive tag but so far it is worth it. Very easy to climb with, feels secure for a bigger guy, and plenty of room in the seat. I've read reviews that say that the Goliath (mentioned above) is generally for the Bigger & Taller guy. I don't consider 6'0" taller, so I went with the Titan. Goliath ($379) Titan SD ($329) Viper ($299) Not pushing Summit by any means, I only looked into climbers though... LW makes great stands too.
Does it have to be a climber? One of the guys on our lease is 300lbs and uses a two man ladder stand. It's rated up to 500 I think and he's got plenty of room for his gear bag next to him. I know one time when we were scouting I sat up there with him and I'm 240. At 6'5 the Summit gives me plenty of room but I think it's rated for 300 total.
im 6'4" ~300# and i sit mostly in LWs. i'll get in an API from time to time but LW is usually my stand of choice. if you do grip the API i'd suggest buying an extra 4in ratchet strap for the top/bottom i believe it only comes with one. buddy of mine has a Muddy that he likes and is a bit cheaper than the LW but much lighter than the API. also make sure if the API is your choice dont get the one with the side arm rests, well let me go back. it all depends on your body type. if bigger around the mid-section they can be uncomfortable with your sides rubbing against the rests and make noise when standing up or turning.
I have a Summit Goliath climber. It supports up to 350lbs. It is amazing how little effort it takes to get up the tree. They are nice, and lite stands. Mike Sent from my iPhone
I am about 310 and use the Summit Titan for a climbing stand. Very roomy, comfortable and secure. I also use a ladder stand Intimidator and Hang on Vulcan both made by Sniper. They are rated at 300 but I still feel secure in them. My dad has a Lone Wolf which is also rated for 350 as is my Titan. I would recommend though if getting the Lone Wolf to go with the Wide Sit and Climb if going with a climber. I also have looked at the Rivers Edge stands that was provided in the link and they look very well built.
