    Hello all, Noob here.
I was wondering how the hell do you actually even get a tree stand in a tree haha. yes that is how noob i am. My father is a motocross dude and loves anything racing. I never have been exposed to hunting and this is something i have always wanted to do, so im kinda tryna teach myself.

Also, what do you prefer. a tree stand or blinds. I know blinds are needed to turkey hunt for the most part, but how do you all hunt?

also how do you get permission to hunt land, i mean you cant just walk into someones back yard and kill a deer, so how does all of that work?

Texas but imma an okie at heart.
How i get into a tree stand that isn't my climber tree stand, is that i bought climbing sticks ( and a ladder step set) I put the bottom step on, climb to the top of that step (Aways wear a safety harness, not worth dying over) and then attach the next step above the first one. I continue this until i get the height that i want or if i run out of climbing sticks. I then attach my lock on tree stand to my back (or use a string and tie it to your belt loop and the stand, once to the top you can pull up the stand.) I climb to the top with it on my back, I then ratchet strap the stand to the tree and make sure it is snuggle to the tree.
For deer hunting i prefer tree stand than ground blinds. I love being in a tree. As for turkey hunting, there are absolutely no turkey where i live so i don't get to hunt them.

How i got permission on land to hunt is by the people i know. For instance, my youth pastor hunts but he doesn't hunt in texas anymore. I asked him if i could hunt his land that he has here on the texas side while he hunts on the arkansas side. I told him that i would give him half of the meat of every deer that i kill there and he agreed to it. I have found more success being able to hunt land from people that i know than from people i don't know.

Congrats on the new hobby/obsession!!! There is alot to learn but the rewards are extremely satisfying! First, do you know/friends with anyone that hunts? If so, see if they can mentor or teach you or at least get you started on the right path. theres alot of hands on things that are so much easier to learn if your shown first hand, If not no worries There's alot of people on this website who can virtually help you!

Have you checked out Ohio's Hunting regs? not sure on the regs if you need to take a hunter's safety course, either way I would highly suggest taking one. the more info/knowledge you can learn the better. I'd take a look at the Ohio DNR website to find those hunting rules and regs. on that website they will have a list of WMA's, which are Wildlife management area's AKA public land for hunting.

You are going to have a blast figuring everything out (All part of the experience)! This was my first year hunting and you pick everything up relatively quickly. Don't be intimidated, just stay active and progressing step by step.

I recommend getting a climber first so you can be flexible while you nail down your honey hole :); public land is a great option to get out right away if you don't have a contact with good private land. Also, make sure you get your hunter certification right away if you haven't done so.

Youtube is great resource to learn how to o everything from tuning your bow, putting up your stand, to field dressing your first kill. Utilize Youtube!!

When you get to a point where you start identifying spots and employing hunting tactics, grab yourself a good "How to" type book and use these forums. Don't over think things. Food/water source, travel corridors, and cover are key to finding a good spot. Once you find dear sign, put out a couple of trail cams out to see what you are working with.

Learning curve is a little steep in the beginning but you will be successful if you stick with it and put time in the stand. Good luck bro.

I find my self hunting more and more out of ground blinds.
I set 6 up this year before season, easy and quiet to get into and easy to move if need be.. And regardless what a lot of folks will say deer get used to them relatively quick if placed in the right areas and brushed in...
I don't get carried away when I brush one in just lean a few brushy limbs against them, and I always try and back it up to a thick cedar or pine..
I have also found that deer get used to the round top blinds faster then the flat top ones round is a more natural shape.. I have set one up mid-day and hunted out of it the same afternoon and had deer pass within yards with nary a care.

That being said I still use ladder stands and climbers too..

If you know someone that knows a few things about hunting, ask them for guidance. Never met anyone that didn't want to help someone out who was trying to get into hunting.

As far as hanging a stand, youtube would be a good resource. I have only shotgun hunted out of blinds, I use hang on stands for bowhunting with screw in pegs to climb. Make sure you have or use the safety harness

Getting permission for land.. If you know some people that have land but don't hunt or only shotgun hunt, ask them. In the mean time, hunt some public land while you are trying to find private land

Welcome to the site and to bowhunting!

Some good advice here but sometimes it is much easier to see it done than read about it so I would also suggest watching some Youtube videos. Good luck and have fun!

I hunt from treestands (hang-ons, climbers, and a few ladder stands) and blinds in NE Ohio. In Pa I mostly use my climber since I hunt 90% on public land, but I do have a LoneWolf hang-on with sticks I use when I find a good spot but not a good climber tree.

Yeah YouTube is a good visual reference.
I run a strap around the tree with a pulley or a carabinier and pull the stand up with a rope. With the strap/pulley set higher than Iwant my sstand I can tie the rope off and work hands free.
    But get a harness.
Ground blinds I dont use a lot and all I can add is get a comfortable , quiet stool that swivels and is the right height.
I tried 5 gallon buckets and my back and butt hurt after sitting on one all day.
I have one friend that let's me hunt his land, other than that I'm on public land.
