Wondering what the general thoughts are requiring tree stands to be marked with owners name, address and phone number. Fur trappers have had to do this for many years. More and more tree stands are being left up year around, especially on absent T ownership and CRP ground around the timber areas. Private property owners are finding more of this also. Personally I would like to see it. Only cost a couple bucks for a "dog tag" with the information stamped in it and would be permanent.

I think it's fair for this to be the case on public ground. I know Kansas requires you to tag stands with your KDWPT number. IL generally doesn't let you leave stands overnight so not really necessary there. When it comes to private ground I don't think the government has any place telling us what to do with our stands, but if a landowner wanted me to do this on a place I was hunting I'd be fine with it.

I understand the "more gov't. requirements" issue, but the state already requires one to have a hunting license on private land, any deer must be tagged before transporting including on private land. Most of the deer hunting in Iowa is on private land. I personally know of 3 stands that have been up for over 3 years on private land. No one but the owner knows who they belong to. This is not right either. Not to mention a liability issue.

I may be reading this wrong but why is it your business to know whos stands are on private land? Why should anyone but the land owner have to know?
How is it a liability issue?

Because I have permission to hunt this ground and the land manager does not want any one else hunting.

If someone other than the stand owner uses the stand and the straps break, that person can come back on the land owner for allowing a hazard to exist. Has been a lot crazier law suits allowed they get expensive and there are no winners. Besides, if you don't have something to hide why not tag your stand ? ?

There are several other land owners around that have stands on their land and have no idea who they belong to. Why should the land owner have to go out of his way numerous times in order to try and catch the stand owner. Most of the time the stand owner will not make himself known til the land owner leaves.
There is very little public hunting land that hold deer in Iowa, not like Mn.

I’ve had this exact problem on my land in PA, as well as my land behind the house in IL. I immediately removed the stands. Problem solved.

As a land owner I don’t want to have to tag my stands on my property. I understand having to buy and carry a hunting license because the wildlife is a public resource, but my property and my treestands aren't

I was not inferring that a land owner had to tag his stand on his property. Only when one puts their stand on others private property or public property. In Iowa a land owner does not need a hunting or fishing license as long as the game does not leave that piece of private property. Deer and Turkey are exclusions to this rule.
