Wondering if you guys prefer to take your tree stand hoist rope with you when you leave, or leave it tied to tree? While it is convenient to leave it and have ready to use, i wonder if it is worth it to take it so there's no chance of scent left at ground level? I left mine on the tree last night for the first time, kinda got me wondering...

I leave them at stands I frequent, but always have one in my pack.

when I setup each stand I set them up with a hoist rope, tree strap for safety harness, bow hanger, and a hook for hanging my pack. It all stays until after the season ends and I take it all down and pack away till next season.

I carry mine in my vest so in order to forget it I would have to forget my vest which has my range finder, wind checker (powder) headlight, calls and a few other small items. The vest goes on right after my safety harness so forgetting it hasn't been a problem. Leaving one at the stand for me might not be good since I'm mostly hunting public land.

Have one tied to every stand..do this when their new, they will stay on for the life of the stand ..replace when needed.
Mine also work as kind of an height indicator when hanging a new stand. Especially when using a climber ..tie my bow off climb up till bow just starts to lift..I know I'm at the right height.

This^^^ I leave my climbing sticks and bracket for my Millennium stand as well. I set everything up as early as possible though so they have time to get used to things like scent and all.

Since I hunt public land with a climber, I always bring a day pack with all those goodies (haul line, hooks, harness, tree strap, thermacell, flashlight, field spray, etc.) inside.

If its a hang-on or ladder stand I leave a hook, bow holder, and pull up rope. I keep my harness rope, pull-up rope, and hooks in my climber bag attached to the stand.

I'm thinking about using some kind of grappling hook on a rope because I'm tired of dropping stuff from my climber and staring at it on the ground...I.e. jackets, gloves, grunt calls, etc.

I always take mine with me. Someone on a site mentioned it was like a giant scent wick. Makes sense since you are pulling the rope with your hands and after dark some deer walk past your stand.

I keep a "S" hook from a rubber bungee cord in my pack to retrive dropped items. One time i even dropped me bow.

Haha, yea that sucks when you drop something. You stare at it and wonder "is it worth going down to get it?" The answer is almost always no if you are in a climber, unless it's your bow. in that case i would climb down and get it, then march my *** home.

The more I think about it, maybe it's a good idea to leave the rope on the tree to let deer get used to seeing it. Not sure on deer intelligence and if they would pick up on it, but it might be like putting a banner up that says "stand occupied by hunter" if you only have it attached when youre in the tree. I usually hoist it up with me and put it in my pack while I'm in the stand though.

I always pull my rope up and put it up til I leave so the scent isn't there and also spray it with scent killer like evrything else I take with me except food of course.
