    Hey guys,

A friend of mine has decided he wants to give hunting a try, so he's taking his hunter safety course, and all that good stuff, but now I have a concern. I've got a blind setup in one location, and I'd like him to try hunting out of a deer stand as well.

Here's the situation, I'm a big guy, I'm 6'3 & 200 lbs, and my friend, he is 6'5 and 350(ish) pounds (maybe more, I don't want to ask him). I'm not trying to be rude about my friend, but he is a BIG guy, and I don't want there to be any issues once we climb up there with all of our gear and get setup.

Would you fine folks know of any tree stands with a 700+ lbs weight limit? I want there to be no question of its strength when you have 2 guys over 6' tall & over 200 lbs each.

    Cheers,

Are you wanting a two man ladder stand? I don't know of any with that weight capacity off the top of my head, but I never really paid attention to weight capacity. I weigh 230 and I feel completely safe in my hang ons. Maybe hang two of the strongest hang ons you can find in the same tree, that way you could essentially cut the weight requirement in half. Maybe? I don't know lol

Yes sir, I was hoping to find a two man ladder stand. My current ladder stand (2 person) is rated at 500 lbs, and I have a single man ladder stand that is rated at 300 lbs, so likewise, I haven't had to worry about the max before. You know, this sounds bad, but maybe I'll just give him the two person for himself (500 lbs max), and attach my single stand near the double.

Your suggestion actually helped quite a dang bit. Thanks!

I was hoping (and still am) to find a double with that kind of weight capacity, but if not, I suppose this will do. He's totally new, so I wanted to be able to climb up into the stand with him and get him all setup, and/or give him some pointers during his first hunt.

You could set both ladder stands up in the same tree, one facing 12:00 and one facing 3:00 or so, if that works. That way you could still get him ready when a deer strolls by.

No offense to either of you. but even if a 2 person tree stand would hold you. Is there going to be any room? probably be a little crowded. I have a 2 person stand and there isnt mcuh room in it when im in it with my daughter ( im 5'11 190lbs & daughter is a stick )

    Great suggestion, thanks!

No offense taken. If you & your daughter are a bit crowded (especially with her being a stick), then I'm sure my friend & me will be way to crowded if we are up there together. I'll just set him up in the two person stand by himself, and I'll take the solo stand and set them up in the tree together.

Thanks again for the feedback. It's good to know!

I'm 6'7" and I weigh 290 lbs right out of the shower. By the time I gear up and get out into a stand I'm sure i'm over the 300LB limit. I used to weigh around 320 and still hunted out of 300LB ladder stands and never worried about it. I'm not at all suggesting that you should try this, but I have done it in the past.

As big as I am, I almost prefer a two man stand anyway just so that I have a little more room to work with. I will say that sitting in a double stand with just one person encourages movement. You've got more seat space so you tend to shift around more. It has gotten me busted in the past.

I don't know your friend, so I can't speak for him, but I get called big all the time and it does not offend me. If I were him and you said to me "Because of your size you need a bigger stand so I think you should sit in this one and I'll sit in another." I would not mind at all. It's not like you're calling him names or something. You're genuinely concerned for his safety and he should understand that. Actually hunting has contributed to a great deal of my weight loss.

I've hunted out of a 2-man stand and they're more like 1.5 man stands

Two ladder stands and/or ladder stand and hang-on are the way to go for two larger people.
