I used small clear poly tubing and that worked. You can buy it by the foot at any home store. Lowes, Home depot, etc

The number I’ve seen for aiders and step distance is 2 inches. So if you have a 15 inch initial step distance when you put your weight on it , it will sag 2 inches making it now a 17 inch step. So depending on your height , you can use that to help tweak it a little

I appreciate that. I did the bottom step at 16 inches and that was too much. The second step was 12 inches, but, I couldn't get my foot in that one. I think I will do 12" each step, with sag that would be 14-15 inches which would be about perfect. That may even let me turn it into a three step aider.

The saddle came in handy today hanging this swing.

Finally got a chance to practice with my new platform/climbing method. Super smooth, effortlessly can lift it up with my feet while I climb. There is a big difference between 5 pounds and 9 pounds! Platform is plenty roomy. I'm not 100% happy with the shoulder straps I have on there (Stock Summit shoulder straps) but I'm probably spoiled by the XOP TTS I have on my larger platform.

I purchased the summit open shot brand new for $250. So for $250, and a few hours of work I have the ultimate climbing method/platform that suits my needs 100%.

What kind of tubing? Specifically? As in what 'guage' of tubing? 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, 1 inch? I just got my Amsteel delivered this afternoon and I'm going to start the production on my aiders tonight and need to pick up the step spacers. I've got both home depot and Menard's locally.

What size amsteel did you get?

Amsteel is measured in OD (outside diameter ) and tubing can be measured in OD or ID (inside diameter ). So I would get the tubing slightly bigger then the amsteel. For example if you got 1/8" amsteel, I would get 3/16" ID tubing.

OK, so last night I but two 2 step aiders for my lone wolf sticks, but I'm thinking that isn't going to work after my experience today. I put rubber tubing as my step separator to assist with keeping the rope apart, but the obvious problem is the pinch when you put weight on the bottom step(during descent) and it locked my foot in the top step.
Thankfully I was near enough to the ground and flexible enough where I could just take a giant stretch and be back on Terra firma, but it still took some effort to get my foot/boot out.
Any suggestions on what to do to prevent that from happening or should I stick with single step aiders? There has to be a work around, but I didn't have time to figure it out.

I bought some amsteel to make some aiders for my sticks. But when I got to thinking about it, I decided I didn't want to be searching around in the dark to get my foot in it. I still want to try aiders so I ordered some steel cable aiders from eastern woods outdoors. I figured with the rigidity of the steel I shouldn't have a problem. They get here today or tomorrow and I'll report back.

I think it will depend on your connection point as well. If you are using one that goes onto the verse button it’s going to want to pinch in more on the steps once weight is added. If you add a double step to the bottom with a aider like the ultimate aider from eastern woods you might have better luck. It stays spread apart due to the steps. And has a more rigid step.

Where might a guy acquire a two sided step that is compatible with a lone wolf sticks?

You can get them from eastern woods as well. I put them on the top of my lone wolf sticks.

The one in the image is from www.doublsteps.com. There are also amsteel aiders available as well.

How do they stay stationary? Do they have a spot that seats into that little metal button that keeps the single step stable?

Got my first saddle hunt in last night. Aside from not seeing any deer it went well. I’ll have to work on gear placement but I’m happy with the switch. Especially with the pack in and out. Makes such a difference.

Anyone with any experience with the hawk ring of steps? What is the strap connection type? Ratchet, or something like the straps for lone wolf sticks/stand or something else?
