What kind of pics do you want? A couple arrows stuck in a target, pic of my tether, or maybe a pic of feet standing on my platform! Lol Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Just wait til you get your saddle, I'm sure you will be posting all over saddlehunter, lol Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I'm loving it so far, I'm sure once I get my saddle I'll be doing just that!! I love the DIY aspect of it. Reminds me of the good old days in the early 90s where people were making their own stands. My dad used to make stands all the time at work (sheet metal shop) and bring them home to test out.
Did you sign up for the pay membership? I didnt, kind of rubbed me the wrong way. It lets you participate in there deer contest and sell on the classifieds. Pretty fun, but not worth buying a membership to me. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
That's exactly why I loved it in the beginning. I made all my own platforms. My last one is made out of 1/2" plate aluminum. I got a redesign one that I'm working on now that I'm making out of 3/4" plate. Never happy with what I make and keep trying to perfect it. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Yeah we as fourm members are supplying all the content, then they go and make us go and pay for it again. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Figured I’d post my climbing method for this first season. I modded my viper climbing platform After watching a few videos. i’m not sure of the overall weight, but if I had to guess I would guess between 5 and 8 pounds. Are used 5/16” grade 8 bolts. It is very sturdy. I tested it out a few inches off the ground. I tried climbing with it with my hunting harness and a bridge attached at lineman’s loops. Not to difficult. I’m working on how to get it more stable and secure to the tree once I’m at Hunting height so I can apply side pressure.
This is what I want to do when the funds are available: using a predator platform in the same way the one stick method is used.
Here are some close ups of my DIY platform. It is made from a Hawk Hang Out Seat. All those naysayers over on saddle hunter are wrong. It can be done and it works great. It is not as good as a predator, but at half the price, I don’t care.
Here is the Best Way, I’ve found to make the platform rocksolid once I’ve reached my desired height. I’m using a blue Ratchet strap here so It can be easily seen In the pictures. I can put this on while kneeling down on the platform. I’ll probably go with a black or camo ratchet strap. Not ideal, but it will do for my first season of saddle hunting. Are use some stealth straps on the metal part of the ratchet strap. Like I said it works and can handle all the side pressure I can apply, but I’m still gonna be looking for a better way to secure it.
How are you going to tighten the strap while 20 feet off the ground? Are you flexible enough to reach down and secure a strap under the platform like that? The few people I know of who used a climber for a platform just used the cable that came with it. Interesting idea, just having a hard time seeing it being safe to set up when off the ground.
Once at climbing height, I can kneel down on the platform to attach it. I practiced it a few times (kneeling down) at waist height. It is kind of awkward though. Once I get my saddle and practice, I'll know for sure if it is truly doable. I don't really need to do the fancy saddle shooting stuff, but it'd be cool if I could!
