Planning to shoot some Tree Rats with the recurve after deer season is over. I am just going to use my regular hunting arrows. (200gr) What kind of blunts/varmint points can you get in the 200gr weight?

    Ideas?

    Thanks

I use the glue on Judo's with adaptors to stump shoot.

I've thought about squirrel hunting with them. I see too many wounding shots for me to feel comfortable doing it.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the replies.

I have thought the same thing Jeff.

I watched a guy shoot them with regular field points and they never went far, or could not get away before he dispatched them. I would be sooting them from a treestand.

Back when I was young, we would glue empty 38 casings to our wood shafts. They made excellent blunts. Other than that, ive always shot tree rats with round field points.

Just the cheap, store bought. I found that once the critter has a hole in it, they do not go very far. I tried judos and liked them, but had just as much luck with good old field points. I also shoot flu flus for anything in the air/trees.

When I used to chase squirrels with a bow... I used some judos but mostly broadheads with the grasshopper legs behind them. (not wood shafts)

I've shot squirrels with judos that are hit pretty good and they still run off. (often with the arrow) Hit 'em just about anywhere with a broadhead and they're done.

I've used a f/p and broadhead too but climbing up In a tree 20 feet up Is no fun either retrieving your arrow that's stuck In a tree. While I'm on the subject of crawling tree's, 15 years ago I climbed up In a tree to get an arrow that was stuck In a tree limb. My brother shot at a doe and stuck a tree branch good. I went up a few days later to get that arrow and fell 15 feet down. The next day was my 1st ever chiropractor visit. I did however get the arrow, just In time before I fell. :) He had no Idea I went and got his arrow. I cut the branch his arrow was stuck In and gave him the arrow and branch for Christmas that year. The family got a good laugh out of that one.

I use a large plactic blunt with a grassshopper behind it...works well...but takes little while to get use too.

This is what we use to use when I was younger. 38 or 357 cases. I would bring them to weight with bird shot melted in the casing. The Judos also are weighted with lead bird shot melted in the casing.

These were images I found, but are exact copies of the small game heads I grew up using.
