I did a search and not surprisingly there is hardly any information. I only found two links both basically saying the same thing, it is worth mentioning that the case was appealed but the conviction was held up by the Georgia Supreme Court 7-1.
When reading about it I feel for the guy because it sounds like his family was being harassed and he genuinely felt in danger and more than likely(I assume) there was some misstep on his part in regards to the drawing and use of the firearm. It highlights to me the amount of knowledge of the law you should have if you conceal carry or are ever thinking you may need to pull a gun and kill someone.

Big-time, you'd better know the law if you're carrying! Getting a permit is liking buying a quart of ice-cream in Alabama. There should be a written test.

    And you know this...how?

Once again, the problems began with an armed guy roaming the neighborhood looking for people he thought were suspicious. Apparently there are those that think this is a good idea. It is a dumbass idea that created this nightmare for two familys and our country.

You do know that when Florida passed concealed carry that crime went down don't you?

I have no issues with a law abiding citizen walking around a neighborhood carrying a firearm, especially if he is part of a neighborhood watch program.

    Glad our constitution allows it.;)

The rest will be play out in court. Quit watching the media circus.

Really so the parents of a white kid who was shot unarmed and walking down the street eating skittles would accepted the self defense theory, I know I would not.

I'm sorry...but what is this picture suppose to be. It certainly doesn't look like a black teenager shot. This is a bald white guy. LOL At any rate it's a small caliber low KE or it would have popped the top.

I will be the first to admit that I do not know everything about the story.... However what I have heard from the media is that Zimmerman’s gun was holstered. Zimmerman has evidence of Martin hitting him in the face and somehow putting gashes in the back of his head. Zimmerman said that when Martin was on top of him, Martin tried to take Zimmerman’s (still holstered) gun…. That is when Zimmerman pulled the gun and shot Martin…

    I have two questions…

1.) Other than the Gunshot wound… Was there any other marks on Martin?

2.) If Martin would have successfully pulled Zimmerman’s gun and used it on Zimmerman would it be a murder case? When Zimmerman is the one with a bloody nose and gashes on the back of his head?

All I know is if someone tries to take my gun away from me to most likely use it against me… I am going to use deadly force…

I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6

The ARMED guy sees a suspicious acting person, that suspicious acting person runs off while the "armed guy" is following him, in an area that recently had some issues with burglaries. That same "armed guy," is a "captain" of the neighborhood crime watch, at some point there's a chase, the "suspicious person" is lost by the "armed guy," then there is an altercation, the "armed guy ends up with a broken nose, and gashes to the back of his head where his head was smashed into a curb, and shoots the suspicious person in self-defense. Pretty simple really. He wasn't just running around the neighborhood like Barney Fife, or at least that's not what has been reported. He witnessed what he considered a suspicious person in an area that has had some crime problems. Noitified police, followed the person, and at some point the person took off running, and he lost the "armed guy," then this is where it gets unclear. At some point the two met back up, a confrontation occurred, and the "armed guy" from what has been reported, and evidenced by the photos is assaulted by the suspicious man he'd just seen. During this assault, the "armed guy" is getting his head smashed into a curb, and pulls his gun and shoots the assailant. If you were armed, and got assaulted by another guy, who after breaking your nose and knocking you to the ground started to smash your skull into a street curb, would you use your weapon???

I'll tell you that I believe even I could try this one an win it with relative EASE!!!

    Gary,
I'll be very HONEST with you, and tell you that if my 17 yr old son were involved in this, and was dead as a result, regardless of the extreme sadness I'd feel, I'd feel sadness for the shooter as well. And if my 17yr old kid beat the snot of out some guy, and that guy shot him in self-defense, I'd probably have to face the facts that my kid was dead because of his poor decision to assault someone who was armed, but at what point is Zimmerman allowed to try to defend himself if he's having his head smashed into a curb??? Is it on the next to last smashing that would knock him out, or is it only after he's been knocked out that he's then allowed to use his weapon??? Again, I'd be very saddened, but in this situation, the kid is dead because of his poor decision to assault an armed man. Had Trayvon Martin not made HIS bad decisions that night, he'd still be alive... And let's not trivialize it by saying he was just some kid walking down the street eating Skittles, because we both know that is NOT the case... He's a kid who was on the sly from the sounds of the 911 tape, and took off in lieu of having some questions asked of him, and then assaulted the guy who was following him. . What did he dispose of while he was off running away??? I'd be suspicious of what a tox-screen would show you in his blood.... Hell, Marijuana is even known to cloud people's judgement, make them paranoid, etc. Any chance he had smoked himself some "herbs" and they caused him to be clouded and act like this??? [IMG]

Lets go with the truth, not the NBC Fairy Tale version!!!
    1. You have a 17yr old young man with a gold grill, a bit of history of an attitude problem, a bit of a marijuana history, who's not near his home on a night he should have been at home (3-4hours away) planning to go to school in the morning, not this "sweet faced" little 12-13yr old we've all been shown in the pictures!!! The picture issue alone indicates that they had a little something to hide. Why not show on of his pictures flashing his gold grill blowing smoke, flashing doulbe middle fingers with the mopy pants??? That's what he had on his facebook page, and it was easily accessible. So WHY not show that picture rather than the 4-5yr old picture??? Why hide who he really was??? He's proud enough to post his REAL pictures on Facebook, show them and show who he REALLY was!!!

    Here's part of your answer....
and the other part is that again, they want people to judge GZ as a MURDEROR who shot this young kid, not this 17 yr old young man who looks like a thug, who was in the process of beating the schit out of him when he was shot!!!

    2. Why are we hearing almost immediately about GZ's criminal record, in which the charges were actually dropped, yet they cry foul when it's discovered that the "kid" had been suspended from school 3 times just within the last year, and one of those was related to him having a bag that contained marijuana residue in it???
Because the TRUTH is a very powerful thing!!! And again, if it hadn't been for Trayvon's little Marijuana issue, he'd have been at home in Miami Gardens, not in Sanford, and probably still alive today to smoke a bowl or two.... :D

    3. What does it really have to do with race??? It really doesn't have anything to do with race. Whether that was a white, black, or Hispanic young man putting the beating on the "armed man," he'd have been justified in shooting any of them if they were busy smashing his head into the curb. And he has EVERY RIGHT to follow someone inside his GATED community that looks/acts suspicious, ESPECIALLY if he's part of the neighborhood crime watch, and they've recently had issues. This is why Gary's situation IS comparable, because Gary, not unlike GZ took chase after some kids, fortunately for Gary, he wasn't armed, as his holster wouldn't hitch up right on his "Tighty Whitey's", but had he been involved in an altercation after chasing those kids, and gotten on the wrong side of a beating and shot one of them, he (Just like GZ) would have been DEFENDING himself, not MURDERING "a kid eating Skittles"!!! Gary were those black or white kids??? If they were white kids, it's okay to chase, but if they were black kids, you better leave them alone, you'd hate to catch one and suddenly you're a racist because you chased down a little black kid....

    4. Why was it not until the morning after the shooting that the parents were notified??? This is a big question for both the LAW and the PARENTS??? How many of us would just not have any idea where our 17yr old was from 7pm until whatever time the police notified the parents??? Who is gonna let their 17yr. old who's just been suspended from school, for drugs have free roam like that and not have a little better track of where he's at??? Often times our youth are a product of their upbringing, and his makes me think that he is very likely a product of his upbringing... "Sweet parents"??? Where were the "Sweet parents" when their son really needed them, before he was killed???

Again, this will be a VERY EASILY defended case, and if they can just put RACE aside, it's simple open close, not guilty, GZ is a free man, then the case that would be MUCH MORE interesting is the lawsuit against NBC for their defamation of character which is a big part of what created this fiasco in the first place!!! I'd also like to try that one as I'm pretty sure it'll NEVER make it to court, and there will be a LARGE sum settled on outside of a courtroom, and basically GZ will never really need to work again if he has a good financial planner, and again, I'll sign up for that one as well, if I can.... :D

Again you posted way to much for me to read. I don't buy it, any parent would fight for justice for their kid.

I see you enjoy the Fox Fairy tale;)

It's the back of Zimmerman's head. You know, the injuries that the media would have you believe never happened. Have you kept up with this story at all? Your comments would lead to believe you haven't. Keep up man!

I agree. BUT, GZ didn't have a duty to confront him. As long as we're talking about the non sugared down version of things, let's agree that GZ didn't politely ask this kid if he was lost and needed a ride home. He had a gun, got cocky and got his butt kicked. He started the ball in motion that le him to use a gun to defend himself from the butt kicking he was getting.

There's no right or wrong here, just actions that could have let to a non deadly end.

So if you're having break-ins in your area, and you see someone "acting suspicious" inside your gated community, you're not going to check them out??? And when you get out of your car to check this guy out, he starts walking a little faster, then BOLTS.... You run after him, because now you're REALLY suspicious he's up to something, then he cold-cokcs you, and breaks your nose, and starts to smashing your head into the curb, whatcha gonna do??? (Note: Not saying this is exactly what happened, but at some level, there was a chase, GZ lost the kid, then thereafter occurred the altercation!!! ) Now you're a little amped up, because you just participated in this chase with this suspicious person, and then a fight ensues, at what point are you going to use your weapon to defend yourself... Martin's mortician said the only wound was the GSW, which lends itself to a one-sided assault!!! Again, I'd step right up to defend this case, and have NO DOUBTS the results would be GZ being a free man, and there being some ignorant folks still mad because someone tried to turn this into a RACE ISSUE, to create more drama. Again, the response would have been different if the deceased was of a different race!!! I haven't heard of Jesse or Al running off to Montana when some white kid gets killed, have you???

Again, if Trayvon had been the "Good," and "Sweet," and "All A's and B's" kid that he's being portrayed as, he wouldn't have been spending time in Sanford, FL while serving his 3rd suspension from school over the last year!!! If Trayvon hadn't RUN off, he'd likely still be alive, if Trayvon had acted differently, then GZ wouldn't have been forced to shoot him in Self-Defense.... Seems everyone sees fault with GZ's actions, but somehow because Trayvon is dead, he gets a free pass.

I can objectively remove race/age from the situation and look at it from a non-biased viewpoint, an draw the conclusion of a "justified homocide" as a result of a man's right to defend himself. I don't care if the person he killed was 13 or 75, if he was getting the snot kicked out of him and was a "victim" of assault, which is what it seems (because remember Trayvon didn't have a mark on him except the GSW), then he's completely justified, and the age/race/gender of the assailant isn't even needed. What is needed to draw some conclusions is the brutality of the attack, and the potential end result if that gun hadn't ended it!!! If GZ hadn't used his gun, who's to say another half dozen smashes into the curb aren't going to cause a subderal hematoma/or worse and some minor or major brain damage or even death???

I had to check out a suspicious looking dude this morning.

I remember reading through this thread innocent until proven guilty, I guess that does not apply to kids in hoodies walking down the street.

Yeah except if that were Sanford, FL there would be a shot up police car in the background and somebody coming out of that sliding door with your TV. We have already discussed the differences between the areas many of us live in compared to an area with one of the worst crime rates in the nation. I'm not saying anyone should take the law into their own hands but I do believe that if I lived in that community I would be a lot more suspicious or untrusting of people in general, you would have to be or you would likely become a victim. Suspicious activity isn't necessarilly a crime, there would be no guilt or innocence...just suspicion.
