If it's true that Trayvon initiated contact first, then I can see at most a manslaughter charge for Zimmerman.

If Zimmerman is charged and it goes to trial and "all" he gets is manslaughter.....there will be riots!!

That can't have a bearing on a court case.

Zimmerman was told not to follow. He chose to do so. He then got out of his car and begin to yell as he approached Martin. Lets say Martin throws the first punch. Who iniated contact in that situation?

Obviously Zimmerman initiated the altercation, thus the manslaughter charge. But verbal words do not condone a physical attack.

I'm with Hooker on this. From the info "we" have... I don't think either is innocent... Murder? Maybe... But how do we know?

I LOVE how the media posts pics of Martin from when he was 12.

There's really no right in this. BUT, it was action taken on the part of Zimmerman that let to the action taken by Trayvon to lead to the killing.

If Zimmerman doesn't follow him, there's no shots fired.

What I mean is if Zimmerman "gets off" with manslaughter or something light people will riot like the Rodney King riots.

This IMO was caused by stero typing on both sides. If either of them would have just calmed down and talk to each other this could have been avoided.

Fletch I know for a fact pink wife beaters are not allowed in Iowa:lol:

I know what you meant. Still that has no bearing on the case. Idiots will be idiots regardless.

You don't think that people may riot if they think Zimmerman gets off??

We need to take this kids death seriously as a country. Do not let the kid die in vain, regardless of what happened. My God people, this case and everything around it remind that we still live in a racially divided country when it comes right down to it. I was actually thinking of this case on the way home from work tonight and all the chaos that has erupted......sometimes, ok a lot of the time, I really believe humans are just horrible to one another.

    Exactly.

Zimmerman was in his car when he first called 911, he had to get out of his car to confront the young man.

Zimmerman has over 40 calls into 911

Trayvon has no record for violence, but he was suspended for smoking pot. The school found an empty baggie in his school bag.

The above are just known facts.

Well where it all went wrong.... was when they didn't take the guy in custody and investigate it right then. They should have treated it like any other homicide or shooting... not send the guy home. If they had done that correctly they probably would have held him at least and done some extensive questioning. Treat it just like a couple brothers having a shoot out on Friday night. They always seem to reach for a gun but don't have one in these deals. It's a bad deal getting way more press time and hype than it deserves nationally. I'm thinking the guy is guilty.

Unfortunately, national pressure is the only way for something like this to get a fair shake. The media knows it, the lawyers know it, and the public knows it. Just how things get done these days. Maybe some day it won't be necessary, but probably not.

Why should we care about this kid's death more than the other thousands of teen deaths across the country?

Perhaps something like this will get people to care about all of our children but I really doubt it.

Because of the circumstances. C'mon Hook, you know that.

I don't buy the "why is this more important than..." argument that comes up every time a case like this comes about. Is it always the most important case in the world? No, but this is the one getting attention. Just because there may have been another teenager killed that day doesn't mean this one is less important. This case goes beyond the killing of a teenager. It includes issues that make headlines. Racial divide, gun control, possible police negligence, etc.

The initial headlines of "rich white guy living in gated community kills black, unarmed, innocent teen" is what caused the media storm.

But now we know that is not exactly the truth, why, as a nation, are we fighting so much over this? Frustrating.
