My transmission in my Durango started slipping yesterday. At times, it wouldn't engage into drive for several minutes, then ran and shifted fine once warm. Took it to Oreilly's to have them run the code #, came up as a faulty trans fluid pressure sensor....which they don't sell. Called a transmission repair shop today and he's telling me anywhere from $50 (doubtful) to $800. Ugh..... more money into that POS.

What year is your Durango ? I forget which years used the same tranny, but, I had a 2004 and had a similar issue. If I tried to engage the vehicle into a drive gear, it wouldnt take, at first...Also, it would slip, now and again.

I ended up just selling it. I actually really enjoyed driving that vehicle, but, I like to older body styles better.

Mine is a 2000. This transmission was made by Countour?? Thats what all the shops have told me. It has 180K on it, can't complain too much about that, but over all, its been a money pit.

I like the look of the Dodge's but would never own one. I just know far too many friends and family that have had tranny's go in Dodges. My brother had one go on a pickup that had less than 5K miles. My siser had one go on a van. My secretary and her son both had trannys go in Dodge pickups at about 60K miles and the list goes on, and on. I never understood why they cant get that resolved.

Sorry to hear of the misfortune.

I had a 98' Dodge Ram.. trans. went dead at 78,000... but the rebuild went over 160,000 before I sold her.

I love Dodge trucks.. but had too many problems to ever own one again.

Hopefully you'll have better luck than I.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram. It has about 152,000 miles. Within the past two weeks I have heard some weird noises coming from under the hood....oh man oh man. When it gets really cold I have some "bucking" when I get into the upper gears. You know you push the gas and the truck kind of jerks a bit when it is getting up to speed. I hear sounds that make my pocket book worried. I just had my rear differential rebuilt about a year ago and it cost me a couple of thousand bucks. I don't know if I can in afford another big fix. I have whittled down my credit card bills to basically nothing and I do NOT want to put anything else on those cards. It actually makes me sick just thinking about my truck.

Good luck Brett.. I hope you do not have the same problems I had.

At 152,000... you already did way better than I.

I know in my heart a decent sized fix is on the near horizon. I need this truck to make it about 18 more months. That would put the truck at nearly 12 years old. I have been through two clutches and a rear differential fix. Other than that, no major problems.

It is kind of funny that I do not even have a cd player, power locks, or power windows in my truck. I am going to relish the day that I can actually afford a good truck, equipped with the good stuff. At that point I will enter into a state of Nirvana, just knowing my life could end at any moment and I would be just fine.:)

BBM, I have worked for just about every auto maker in the industry. This is all assembly experience. If it is just a sensor...replace it then dump it. If it is anymore than get rid of it. That year of Dodge and surrounding years is notorious for tranny problems. You can include Ford in that same sentence. I'm suprised you not reporting a valve cover leak as well. I would get rid of it.

Dave .... sorry to hear that, Bro .... I used to be a Fixed Operations director for a multi store dealership ...Dodge was one of the stores ...and the Durangos usually were the most solid of the trucks as far as trannys went ....

Button, sorry to hijack your thread my Dodge brother....but I need some help fellas. I went and tuned up my truck today. During the process I had a thought about what could be causing the symptoms my truck has been experiencing. I went out and replaced all eight spark plugs and while I was pulling out one of the spark plugs I noticed oil on the bottom half of the spark plug. I have never seen that before in any vehicle. The oil only appeared on one spark plug out of the eight. Is there some kind of gasket or seal that I need to replace before the problem gets worse? I cleaned out the spark plug housing and I am about ready to take the truck out on a test run here shortly. I cleaned out the air intake flaps (valves) or whatever, tried to get any potential water out of my gas, put in some hile mileage oil for older vehicles, and replaced the spark plugs. I hope it runs better.

Leaking valve cover gasket. The oil is seeping into your plug tube.

Thanks 2 and Tony. I will take it in next week unless you guys think I can fix it myself. I am stubborn and if it will save me $100 or more I will do it myself. The part does not seem to be that expensive. After working on my truck today it is running ALOT better. It opened up so much cleaner after replacing the spark plugs that is was not even funny.

Brett, not much to changing a valve cover gasket. It just depends on how comfortable you feel about it. I'm sure there is tons of info on the internet

If there is not much to it, then I am going to do it myself. The faulty valve cover gasket is on a side of the engine that is very accessible and easy to maneuver. I am going to research it then take care of it next tues or wednesday when I am off work. The last thing I replaced on my truck was my radiator a couple of months ago. The more I learn how to do on my truck the more money I will save in the future. THANKS guys.
