I have been shooting at colored spots on my beige target for awhile now. At 12 yards I feel very solid with my shooting skills. Today I played around with aiming at a small off color section of the target from 10-12 yards. I had a real hard time with my accuracy. Once I added a small colored dot to shoot at I had no problem. I once again went to just aiming at a small off color section of the beige target and once again had difficulty focusing. Any of you guys have this problem? I can see where it might be one of my issues when aiming at a uniform colored object such as a deer and focusing on a little spot. I am finding it hard to "pick a spot". THIS VERSUS THIS....
Interesting. Actually I do better shooting at animal targets then I do say a 5 spot or something. You'll figure It out.
I always focus on the crease right behind the shoulder. There's usually something that will stand out...a dark or light colored patch,a tuft of fur, muscle, etc. And I always envision the exit. If you shoot for that arrow to exit behind the opposite shoulder, you have a dead deer
When they teach new shooters or problem shooters on the pistol range- they often use a all white target and the folks will naturally find center mass. Then they put the target up with the black circle and folks seem to find it easier. Think its instinct. Sean
Brett and Sean, I'm (with other instructors) teaching a IBEP course in Loudon county April 10th. It's free if you want to take it and it's not full yet.
I understand where to aim and all, I am just having trouble "picking a spot" because it all looks like one big spot. For years I shot guns and a compound with a pin sight. All that time I had a pin/scope/sights to use to settle in on my target. Now with a recurve I have to be the pin/scope/sight yet my brain keeps searching for some magical little dot to use as a reference point before I release...hahaha. I guess without that little dot my brain is using the dot on the target so when I switch over to a dotless target I am lost a bit. I will figure it out. I need to buy a 3-D deer target.
