I have a 12 week old Chocolate lab puppy who has fetch down pretty well and is already searching out his sticks when I hide them. I'd like to train him to shed hunt as I plan on spending a lot of time at the new cabin in northern NH looking for deer and moose sheds. Does anyone have experience training dogs to shed hunt or have any recommendations as to where I should begin? Are there any good books out there?

Here is a picture of Camo ready to try out some new tree steps.

Good looking Labradigger. Rob PA may have some insight on the subject.

I have read somewhere that if you use a shed to play with your dog, they will look for sheds to play with you .... makes sense to me

I've heard its a long process. My dad's trying it right now. Told me that it takes something like 6 different sheds to train a dog...

It's bound to be an interesting experience.

I'll have to get a bunch of sheds for him. I was told only to use sheds as training tools and not let the dog always have one around to chew on. If he always has it then he will be less interested in finding them. I'm excited to get him started.
