So I bought a Moultri trail cam off Craigslist for $10.. Yeah $10.. So I don't really care.. But I get home put an SD card in it and realized it has a normal white flash and its bright as ****.. Will it scare animals away? I've never used a trail cam without infared flash so I'm looking for opinions

I have been using trailcams for over 20yrs and here is what I have learned. There are very few hard and fast rules. It will bother some and not others. When I began using cameras there was nothing but white-flash, and I really didn't notice a big impact on the deer. As a matter of fact, I prefer to still use white-flash. One thing I have found that seems to spook them more than anything is running the camera in the video mode. I guess it's because the flash stays illuminated much longer. Having said all that I don't think white-flash has that much effect, especially if you are using it over some kind of food or attractant. They will generally ignore everything else when there's food involved. Good luck and I will look forward to your pics. You will probably get alot of differing opinions on this question but these are my experiences.

    Blessings..........Pastorjim

I agree with pastorjim. I use to run a few a took alot of pics of nice bucks. The only downside I see now is that theft seems to be at an all time high and a bright white flash is pretty easily noticed at night. Even though the camera was just $10 you still don't it stolen with your sd card so I would watch where you put it

Best thing about the flash is it gets color pictures. But like pastorjim said I had mixed results. Some deer would turn inside out some would walk up to it and sniff it. If you put it out they will eventually learn to get used to it.

The price is certainly right, but I don't like flash cameras. I won't even buy a new one that isn't invisible infrared.....

Hey any camera is better than no camera at all right? Can get some good flash pics for sure, batteries will go faster if taking a lot of night pictures for sure. I also found when setting a flash camera on a trail, I would get a mature buck only once and then he would avoid the camera so move it frequently if setting on trails. Literally have filmed deer doing that, going around a camera. Still better than none at all though

No it will not scare deer away. I have deer shy away from Infared more than a white flash. White flash takes better night pics than any other flash.

That has not been my experience, on either of your comments.... I guess that's why they have both.

That's exactly what I am afraid of.. I went out and set 2 trail cameras out today but I left this one at home for the time being.. I don't want to be scaring bucks this early in the season and really don't feel like going in and moving it frequently
