Hi everyone, newly registered to the site but I have been cruising thru here often. I started to get serious about using trail cams last year & have 3 of the various Moultrie M80 series cams & a PlotWatcer Pro. I have been fairly satisfied with their performance (no major issues). I do notice that below about 25 degrees F the Moultrie's stop working. So I am looking to add a couple of more to the stable that withstand the colder temps & have been looking @ the Covert & Uway lines. I have not been able to find info on what their temperature operating range specs are, it seems this is one spec that the manufactures fail to mention. Also any pros & cons on either would be great too. Thanks.

I have the moultries M80 and M100s and i have never had a problem with them in cold weather. What kind of batts do you use. I have better luck with lithum in colder temps. but use rechargeables alot to save a little money and they work great. The M100s are better in my opinion. I like the new stealth cam sniper shadow. It works flawlessly and i use a lot of Reconyx and of course they' re awesome but cashy. For the money you cant go wrong with moultrie or stealthcam. I hear coverts are really nice also but i dont have any of them. hope this helps

    Welcome to the site!

So far my Covert Black60 has taken pics in temp as low as -15* F. Haven't had any issues will it spooling pics like my Bushnell does at colder temps. It'll get the full abuse this winter :tu:

My old LeafRiver used to be good to really cold temps. Got a ton of wolf pics @ -35*.

    Welcome!

I have a moultrie m-80 that I pulled since it won't take pics in the current temps, pretty unimpressed with the camera all around. I have a couple covert reveals, their flash camera and I believe their least expensive that has not missed a beat and haven't had the problems with my bushnells that Fitz speakes of. I'll be adding more covert cams in the future.

I should note, the LeafRiver didn't like 35*-20*, but then worked like a champ in the colder depths :tu:

I have a Moultrie M80 and have had no problems at all in cold temps. As a matter of fact I usually go a month or more between checks and it doesn't even use about 10% of the batteries in very cold temps, I use rechargheables. And that is in the video mode which I know uses more energy. That said, I don't think you would go wrong with the Coverts.

    Blessings........Pastorjim

There are many pros to the covert line, the biggest being it's really the best cam you can get for your hard earned money. There is one con to the covert's though, you won't be able to buy just one.

When we were looking for a shed this week I found a DLC Covert Reveal which is a flash camera and is tougher on battery life than a IR that I had set in September of 2011 and it took pics into June of 2012. I live in Minnesota and that camera went through a cold winter and still took pics into the summer. I do not believe you can beat a DLC Covert camera, they take great pics are great on battery life and if you need it they have unbeatable customer service.

If you are looking to add more cameras and battery life in the cold temps is what you are looking for, get a Covert.
They have a few new models for 2013 coming out.

I have a older i40 that goes all winter on a set of batteries. Once was taking pictures in -10 degree temps.

The 2011 M80 I have. Worked so far this Wisconsin WINTER. I give the batteries (rayovac) a month then they need changing. I heard lithiums are better to use in the cold, but have not used them. That camera really throws off some light at night.

Covert black 60- so far so good the month it has been out. Coverts will have better battery life then the M80'.

To you guys with the m80- do you have a m80x or a m80xd? The m80x (2011) can have the firmware "updated". not sure what it exactly all changes but I recommend doing it. Go to moultries web site.

I forgot to mention that I am using rechargeable batts. (Tenergy 2600mAh). The cameras had daily pics on it till the temp plummeted here & then I had nothing for 4 days. After it warmed back up for a little bit it started to take pics again & I had plenty of battery life left when I swapped out the card. Last winter my buddy had the same problem during cold spells. He pulled the camera when it was cold & the camera was dead but as soon as it warmed up it started to work again without changing the batteries. I'll have to look @ their website to see about the firmware update. No opinions on the Uways? The U150 line is the one that I am looking at. Thanks for all the useful replies....think I'll like it here.
