I have yet to buy a trail cam because I almost exclusively hunt public land. Land which I know gets pressured with folks walking around.

I was thinking about buying one and putting it in a really thick area now. Then remove it before I think others would be scouting.

Anyone in similar situations or have advice on what is working for you?

I would also definately buy a security enclosure and python lock for it. Most security boxes are only about $35.00 and lag-bolt to the tree. It's not a completely theft-proof system but it sure would slow down a potential thief.

    Food for thought...

During scouting season I will usually put the cameras out on Sunday afternoon and retrieve them Friday afternoon,
to keep the weekend warriors away as much as possible.

Also if your in a snowy area you foot track lead to your camera and everyone else will know that too,
so I will loop in and out of the locations few times and dilute my tracks as best as can be, if I suspect others are in the area...

Thanks for the advise, I was thinking the security box would bring more attention. After your post I thought.. I am just asking for it to be taken if I do nothing. At least if I put on in very early, I should likely not have any problems... and the lock would help if I do.

i think security box is your best bet. if you have it locked properly to the tree with the camera securly in the box. nobody is getting in there. unless they have a hack saw....also we have pictures of ppl walking right by them w/o even noticing them...they are not the easiest thing to see.

id say with a security box...your looking pretty good.
