I have had my Reconyx out in some very cold temps.... the camera performs as usual but the batteries definetly don't, battery life is cut nearly in half during the winter.

In the teens it takes really bad pictures and won't go off most of the time. I stood in front of it and it did not take my picture. I took it home warmed it up and it was fine.

That is very odd, with the colder temps, there is a bigger differance between the air temp and the body temp of whatever triggers the camera... I usually have to turn my cameras sensitivity down in the winter months so as not to get pictures of chipmunks and squirrels.

I tested it last night and it worked fine in the house.

It took some pictures, but only 1 day picture the rest at night the last month. Like I said I stood right in front of it.

That is crazy Gary, did you try contacting SG about it as that shouldn't happen for any camera? I would shoot them an e-mail and see what they say about it, it might even be a problem with the control board in the unit.

My 550's work great in the cold. Had them out the month of January in 09 and 27 of the 31 days were below 0 at some time and I had good battery life when I pulled it.

Germ, I am due for an upgrade real soon, My old Moultrie's take great pics, but the 6 volt batteries that power them suck in the cold.

I've never had issues with the cold with my Covert IIs, and I've talked to people who use them in the single digits and lower who report the same functionality for them as well. Battery life is slightly reduced, but certainly not in half in my experience. Purely a guess but I'd say around 10-20% maybe.

My battery life Isn't cut In half by any means. Actually It seems to be working damn near the same so far, maybe slightly more battery getting used but not much. I'm telling you folks, Reconyx makes a damn good trail cam.

By the way our temps here were In that -30 below range at night for a good 2 weeks and my Reconyx worked flawless. One of my 2 No Flash Cuddebacks froze up for a bit (frosted over the lens). I un thawed It and It was good to go. My other No Flash worked perfect.

It sounds like it could be a camera issue so I think I'd contact the company. You also might try lithiums in your cams. They really rock in the colder weather.

We don't have cold like you do, but my sg550 worked fine in some teens and single digits
that we had in December. Could be your camera. I would probably call them and see
    whats up with it.

Both of mine work fine and im right next to schultzy. Sounds like you either have your sensitivity level set wrong or theres a problem with the PIR sensor itself.
