i bought a trail camera along time ago and had zero luck it was a film cam, it sucked everything was blurry it was costly over time and just an over all piece of crap, my question is what is a good trail cam for a decent price (i hunt alot of state land) most of which is very secluded several miles deep. but if i could get a camera that sends the images to my email that would be awesome are there such devices? what do you all recommend?
There are trail cams that will email you photos. They are expensive and have a monthly charge if you use the cellular service. Think of it like a cellphone. You have to have cell service in the area and it will connect to the cell towers and email you the photos. They run about 15$-30$ a month. Plus a cost of about $1000 to $1300 for the base units. Cheaper models can also connect to a wifi network but obviously you would have to be in range of an open wifi connection. Google "trail cam pics email". I would never put a 1000$ + camera on public land regardless of how secure and secluded it was. Just my opinion though. Cheap digital cam run 30-50$. I would not consider 30$-50$ disposable, but certainly easier to swallow a stolen camera in that price range.
Wildgame Innovations makes some economical 3MP trail cams. They take decent night pics (IR models) and good daytime pics. I've seen them on Amazon for $40-60. They're very affordable and better than no trail cam but they have their downsides. Trigger speed is slow, they make a noticeable "click" when they snap a picture and the ISO speed is slow. This means if the animal is close or moving quickly it can look blurred. Also, the light sensor isn't the greatest. Sometimes during twilight the IR flash still goes off - this results in pictures being washed out because there's too much ambient light combined with the IR flash. The model I have has great battery life! The batteries won't drain when left in the unit and the unit turned off. Left batteries in my two cams last winter and this summer they both fired up with 75% battery life. They've been out for about a month and a half and still have 50% life (total of about 150-200 pics) Best time to buy is after Christmas, black Friday (I got two cams at Dlcks sporting goods for $70) or late winter / late summer when last years stuff goes on clearance. **Edit - you're not going to find a "cheap" cam that sends pictures to email. you could make on yourself if you're familiar with electronics / modems / mobile devices but you'd still need a mobile data plan or wifi network nearby. I'm just suggesting cheap cameras that you could leave on public land so if they get stolen you're only out less than $100. Hope that helps!

thanks all, very helpful, i now relize that even for a refurb mms trail cam is 299 bucks and looking at the coverage area they definatly dont have service in my neck of the woods. ill certainly take your advice and look into the cheaper but more cost efficient models. thanks all, also my area lol if anyone is in my area, theyve got to be young and think as smart as i do when it comes to stand position selection, its quite the hike in between a swampy bedding area and a few 10'X10' natural grassy clearings i left my stand in there for two years (took it out every three months to maintain it, obviousley with out the cloth on it" and not even so much as a human foot printo out that way its well off the beaten path, im probably an idiot for sitting there haha but it produces so why not?
