Freelance Bowhunter, your book looks like it has some valuable information for a newbie bear hunter like myself. Your definitely right that I want to learn as much as possible to make this hunt a success as it has taken me ten years to draw this tag. Unfortunately, zone B takes the most preference points to draw a tag, but this is the area I have access to hunt.

I found this camera on Amazon as well. Does anyone have any experience and/or feedback about this one?

I'm sure that camera would be fine. However, if I was just starting out buying cameras, I would go with the Covert MP8. You don't need the blackout for bears, just put the camera above eye level.

By the way, since Wisconsin increased the number of bear tags, and because the number of applicants has been steadily decreasing, the drawing wait is way shorter. I was at a bear camp in Bayfield County this year and everyone in camp drew with five or six points.

That's correct the draw wait time is less for zones A,C, and D, but hasn't been for B. Which, is the zone I'm applying for. For 2015 the zone B draw results 55% for those with 9 points and 100% for those with 10.

Wanderer there are some advantages and disadvantages to those long wait times. Trophy bears are more common in those areas and the competition among hunters/baiters is lower so the bears are not as educated. It can be a real zoo here in Minnesota where most of my baits have another bait within a mile of mine. You should have a good hunt and be successful if you do your homework and put the time in. Keep us posted and throw us a bone... a trail camera photo of a big bear now and then!!

Hope you get your harvest tag. I had a tag for C this past fall I only had 3 point. I did have great bear activity on my bait sites until a week before season. With a zone B tag less baits. For cameras any of the stealth cameras will take great pictures you can get a bear box for them. Buy I would recommend a python lock made by masterlock. Good luck

The zone C tag is a real tough one from what I've heard and read. There's so much agriculture that the Bears have plenty of groceries to eat besides from bait sites. I've heard from a few people the same scenario you've mentioned richard932. Good bear activity right before season opens. Then the bears vanish until after season closes. The theory I've heard is that the corn ripens enough and the bears leave the bait sites for the corn and stay in the corn until after season closes. Sounds like the DNR needs to come up with a new game plan to control the bear population in zone C.

You got that right! I think if season opened on Saturday instead of Wednesday, more bears would get killed. Population in C is BOOMING
