I'm fairly new to trail cam. I bought a Moultrie I55R last August and used it about a month and it seemed to work fine. I just got it out a few weeks ago and put in new batteries and took it to the woods. I've been getting landscape pictures with no animals. I thought I was just getting pics because of the wind but now I see info that it is heat activated not motion, but no animals in pics. I just set it up in my driveway and experimented by walking by it and have discovered that if I walk really slow I might get lucky and catch the back of my leg as I'm walking out of the pic. In other words, any deer just walking by who doesn't stop to browse will not be in the picture. It also doesn't seem to be snapping a pic dependably if I get 20 yards or so away. Moultrie guarantee is for 1 year. So now I have discovered the thing isn't working properly and I'm just out of warranty. I got 1 month good use from it and now it appears to be useless junk. Do I have to spend the big bucks to get something that will work. Am I just buying junk by getting an inexpensive one like I have. I'm not all that interested in bells and whistles and even the pic quality. I just want it to give me a picture of trail activity.
Don't set it perpindicular(sp) to a trail. Set it so it points up or down the trail or over bait if legal. The animal should be in the camera range longer and you should get more pics.
janesburg gave you some great tips. Ambient temp has a huge affect on the sensing range of most commercial cams and a 20 yard sensing range for most cams is quite a stretch so set up your cam accordingly and see what happens.
Thanks, I just had the sense that last year it was snapping the pic a lot sooner and I wasn't missing them. I'll try to figure out a way to get a better direction to keep them in the frame longer.
I have a Moultrie I60 and it has always done this. I think Moultrie cameras are just not a good choice unless you have a feeder that it is stationed over. They are just really slow and you will get a lot of blank images.
They will work better over feeders or bait. It will also work better in cooler temps. Anything that will make the animal linger will be a big help to you. Blessings......Pastorjim
i was shocked to see how far this trail camera took a picture if you look close you can see 2 deer way back
My situation is a perfect example of why anyone buying a new toy they are unfamiliar with needs to use forums like this. I had no idea that the trigger times were so different depending on model. I just figured that they would be instant as soon as detection was made. Since I do not have any food plots to put cameras on I am pretty much trying to get trail shots where the deer are moving quickly. A little research beforehand would have led me to a more appropriate camera.
I just got a M-80 a week ago and I HATE IT! It has been out for 7 days and only has 6% battery life remaining when I checked it today. It had 9 pictures!! 3 were of me! The rest where of nothing. I could be doing something wrong but I don't know what it could be. Plus the Plot Stalker software wont run on my NEW laptop. I keep getting some error about a file missing. After several uninstall/reinstalls I have given up on it. So now all I have is a AA battery drainer. I don't think i'd pay $10 for this cam, considering I'd spend 100's on batteries. Good thing I still have 5 more weeks until opening day. Looks like I'll be sending this one back and getting a Cuddeback.
I just ordered a Bushnell Trophy cam from Cabela's which is on sale now. Used my points so this is going to be a bargain for me. This should be a nice upgrade without breaking the bank.
I would tell them that you are going to give them bad publicity for a poor product if they don't stand behind theirs.
