One of my Coverts has an issue with the wire from the lid over to the battery compartment. It's kind of glitchy but as long as I make sure it takes a pic before I leave it seems okay.
I'm about to call it on my 2008 covert reveal. A bear mauled it. Broke the case and left it where it filled up with water. I dried it out, but alas, it will now only make a sad beeping noise and nothing else. Moment of silence for this faithful grunt of a camera..... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Most of the Coverts I have are 12MP. The pictures are excellent. I'm not sure you could really get better. I have about 25 of them and we have 11 of the 12MP cell cameras. I've been impressed with the pics I've seen from the Stealth cams but to be honest if I'm going to spend money for something other than Coverts it going to be for the detection circuit and the only cameras that I've seen that for sure have a superior detection circuit are Reconyx. I'll probably just buy some new kind to try a couple times per year to see if I can find something that is obviously better.
Well what I have are older cell cams that are no longer supported as cell cams but still work as regular cam. Again keep in mind... I'm friends with the owner. If I was going to buy a new Covert I'd try the Black Maverick. It is rated to have a little faster trigger speed than most coverts. I wanted to get one this year but I already have 40 trail cameras so it was too hard to justify.
Damn, they don't have any of those on Amazon and that's my preferred market. I see them on Covert's site listed at $199. That's not that bad for a high quality camera, may be able to do a few rather than as many as I'd planned. Ohh, wait a sec, they do have them on Amazon and $10 cheaper than Covert's site....okay I'm in maybe. Update, after looking at some reviews and pics, I'm just not happy with the Maverick's performance I'm seeing. I'm seeing a lot of blur in the night pics and though I expect some less than perfect night quality, blur isn't something I'm going to live with on a $200 camera.
Yea I agree. I can probably get them a lot cheaper than that but still I'm like you.... Even if I'm giving $120 for a camera I expect a lot. Good luck in your search. Let us know if you find a gem.
I have 3 cheap older Moultrie M80s that are VERY dependable. I can always count on them to take awesome pics of deers' butts as they walk by out of frame, leaving me to guess how big the headgear was. Seriously though, they have horrible trigger speeds so they are not good on travel routes; but they are decent food plot cams. Good pic and video clarity day and night and they are tough- going on 7 seasons old now. I think I got them for like $75. Set of D cell batteries last all season no problem. The cards will fill up before the batteries die.
As far as longevity my winner right now is a Moultrie M80 that hasn't seen the inside of the house for more than seven years now. Slow trigger but it just keeps plugging along. Next would be my Covert Red 40. It's been out for 5 years without a single issue. I do have a Covert Code Black that just died this summer. I probably didn't get 4 years out of it. So far my Browning Strike Force are going great but the oldest is only 3 so we'll see. I have a Reconyx that is probably 10yrs old that still works great but that's a horse of a different color! Blessings.........Pastorjim
please do...I went through all the reviews and I have to say that most look like they were written by bots or foreigners. I saw only one review that had a pic that was supposedly taken by the camera- looked like a thumbnail from a cell phone pic of a leopard floating over a fence.
Thanks CoveyMaster will try. I think its like everything else. Everyone has there favorites and some work well. There are always going to be a dud in no matter what brand you buy and how much you spend.
The answer depends on what you want pictures or video. On your g42s check the gasket area where you insert the sd cards. It will come out causing it to leak at that point. The newer version of the g42s are not as good as the first one. As of now the best cam I could find for videos is the new 2017 Browning extreme. No competition. How long it will last ???. There are several good cams for pictures under 130 bucks. Most have already been mentioned. Don't buy the hype of high megapixels. It's not real. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I don't need bells and whistles. What I want is a cam that takes pics, vids are nearly useless to me. I don't need a camera that "does it all" and costs $700. I need a camera that takes great quality pics, day or night, decent trigger speed and no blur. Since I run them weekly they don't even need to take a huge GB card, 8 would work and 16 would be great. I'd prefer they spend their time designing a decent camera that can survive a nuclear warhead and drop the super multifunction video+pics with HDultramagnificent crap and offer it at under $100. I don't get why or how this happens, same thing happened to the Moultrie M-880 first and second gen. They had a great product but "improved" it and ruined it. The G42 only needed a couple of refinements and it would have been nearly perfect, a better case and gasket and materials in the battery compartment. Yeah I read on Trailcampro ( I think) about how companies artificially inflate that MP number. I just keep thinking that one of the cheapy off brands has to be usable. I guess that's how the scam keeps perpetuating though too. Sure, there are a ton of cams out there for the $130 range, I'm just interested in finding one as far under $100 as I can get that is competitive. I'd imagine I'll run out of money and patience before I find that, lol. When it comes right down to it, I can live with a pretty crappy camera at the right price. I still have fresh memories of days when cutting edge trail camera tech was a nearly suitcase size plastic box that you could get in any color you wanted just so long as it was black, and had all the quality and speed of the most modern tin type money could buy.
You can find the strike force elite on sale under a 100. The Bushnell E2 also would be a good option for under 100. Don't get the new Bushnell E3. I also like my Reconyx xr6 cams for the dependability and I get pictures and videos on each trip. They just keep working. Also cost 600 bucks so they should. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I see a lot of good thinks about stealth cam and the g42 in particular. Would those cameras be recommended to get? Even the new model? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I would not recommend the new model g42 at all. The version v2 and v3 have issues. It's sad that they had a very good camera and messed it up. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Any good ideas on where to get a earlier model trail cam as i see those tend to be more popular and work better Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
