Heading out tomorrow morning with 3 other guys to test out my newly done recurve and new arrow set up In Coon Rapids, Mn for their Traditional Shoot. Dad Is making the 4.5 hour trip down also In a few hours. Should be a good Fathers Day weekend no doubt!! This Is the only 3-d shoot I go to, It's a good one!! 3 rounds of 20 targets each round- Minnesota round, Western round, African round. Each round has a steel target with the vitals cut out of It, It definitely gets your nerves a going!! I hope I don't wreck one of these $14.00 FMJ's I'm shooting. Up until 2 years ago I always took the cake score wise with my brother and few other friends but 2 years ago dad whooped on me on his 1st time going with us. Then last year my brother whooped up on me so It's time I get my prize back from those guys.:d In reality I could care less, just something to poke fun at each other with.:d

I don't think It's your typical scoring. If I remember correctly It's 20 for a heart shot, 15 for a lung shot, 5 for a non vital shot. On the metal targets Its 40 If you make It through without hitting the metal. 1260 would be a perfect score. This shoot Is by far the hardest 3-d shoot I've ever been to, too difficult In my opinion. There's too many shots where your threading a needle on getting through brush, missing tree's, etc. The Minnesota round Is set up exactly like that, It's set up allot like the woods I hunt In northern Minnesota (thick and thicker). Most shots are In that 12 to 20 yard range. The Africa and Western rounds are a little farther shots (20 yards on average). Some of the shots are as far as 40 some yards but not to many are.

Awesome Steve O, sounds like a good time! have fun and take some pics as well! Were all going to have to meet up at one of these shoots next summer and spend the weekend camping and shooting. I think it would be awesome if we could get everyone from here together and make it happen somehow!

Well I did pretty damn good, actually great by my standards. I shot by far my best ever at this Traditional shoot!! There's 3 rounds at this shoot of 20 targets per round and by the 3rd round my screwed up arm (golfers elbow) started giving me trouble so the short drawing along with the shaking was starting to appear here and there with my bow arm. My last round wasn't all to good but I still blew by my old high score by 145 points. My old high was 730 and today I shot a 875. If my arm wouldn't of acted up It should of easily been a mid 900 score. I'm guessing I'll place In the top 10 In the recurve class out of 100 to 150 recurve shooters. I did find out 2 things with shooting these FMJ's- these arrows are the cats meow for me being they are tuned to my bow awesome!! The other thing Is that these arrows are stronger then my 2216 Aluminum arrows are. I really didn't think that they were until I damn near squared an oak tree today and my arrow glanced off of It making one hell of a noise and all I could think was that sucker has to be bent and ruined. Sure enough It was straight as could be, my 2216 would of bent no doubt so that's saying allot. The strongest arrow I've ever saw before this was my 2216's, I'm 100% a firm believer of these FMJ's now. Thank you Russel for setting me up with these, I'm lucky to have you as a friend. One thing I should add, this was bar far the hardest traditional course yet that I've been on. The African round was very challenging, lots of 25 to 30 yard shots with tree's or branches just Inches away In the shooting lanes.

I didn't get too many pics snapped off (kind of hard to do when your shooting). We should of had someone with who wasn't shooting to take pics.

This Is my dad with the longbow that he made 20+ years ago that he still hunts with yet today. The guy has taught me so much about hunting and what hunting should be about In my and In his opinion. Happy Fathers Day pops!! He's got a pretty damn good form too doesn't he? Experience and time will do that I guess.

This here pic Is a buddy of ours who Is slowly getting Into traditional bows. The bow Is a Black Widow longbow and I think he plans on hunting with It this fall bear hunting. I snapped the picture too quick, as you can see he's still not at full draw yet. My bad!!

In this pic here my dad was suppose to take a picture of me when the arrow was In flight but as you can see the arrow Is already In the target. The elk In this picture was 30 yards away, I drilled him good!! Got lucky you could say!!:d

Thanks guys, It will be a while I'm sure before they post the scores up on their website. If I was to finish In the top 3 I think I'd get a trophy or a plaque but I know better then that happening. My score was good but It wasn't awesome.
