What traditional bows out there would you really like to own someday? For me there are a couple. Their both take down recurves. These suckers aren't cheap but I'd sure like to have one some day. 1. Schafer- http://www.schafersilvertipbows.com/index.html 2. Morrison- http://www.morrisonarchery.com/body_index.html I will own a Schafer some day.
I have coveted both those bows. The Morrison was a little too "high tech", so I backed off that. Wouldn't mind a schafer. I really want a elk antler riser bow from zipper. I have two now (wood riser) http://www.zipperbows.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/P1000948.157114821_large.JPG But he wants over a grand for riser alone. I can't do that. Its only for looks too. I wouldn't mind to have a OL Adcock fast bow. Smokes about all trad bows out there. But again, very expensive. http://www.bowmaker.net/index2.htm
I had 7 Shafers...still have one. Had lots of Widows(still have one) and they're still probably my favorite bow. But the bow on my wish list is a 60" 50#@28" '59 Bear Kodiak or an A riser Bear t/d with #1 limbs around the same weight
I've always fancied a Black Widow 2pc T/D , like the one Denny Sturgis Jr uses in MBB3 or I'd like to try a Fred Bear T/D 'A' Riser with #1 limbs or a Borberbows Black Douglas , very nice bow made in my home country
My wish list is pretty much already there...the only bow I would even consider shooting that is as smooth, quiet and with no handshock as my Big River or my NewWood bows would be an ACS, but, I cant see spending that kinda cash on a bow that doesn't shoot better then my current bows! Shot the Widows and Morrisons...no thanks! I hear good things but never shot a Schafer, don't know if they even make a Longbow?? Wish list Bows to shoot: Griffin...Centaur...Whip
Well, I just looked at the Schafer website from Steves link...looks like the make a Longbow, I like the longer riser, good looking bow, but, from the order form I'm thinking very expensive as well?
I just sold my Browning Safari I and Shakespeare Super Necedah. I also have a regular Necedah that shoots so good...it's actually one of my favorite bows
I've shot Schafer, never tried a Morrison.. A few years back I shot about all the widders. I shot a few different bows and lot more I haven't shot.. Can't really say there's anything I'm interested in right now, pretty happy with what I have.. which is more than I can shoot.. Of course I never turn down an opportunity to shoot something I've never shot before. My neighbor and I made a bow the other day. He had a wood riser from some kind of compound bow and I had a set of take-down limbs made probably ten years ago and never finished.. He did all the work but ended up with a real nice 64" 55# recurve that's smooth as silk... Looks pretty nice too. Chris
I've shot some high $dollar$ custom bows, including Widows, Morrisons, Sagittarius and I have a Pittsley Predator. As far as shootabiliy and functionality I have seen no real advantage to them. The Predator is by far the fastest bow I've ever shot. IMO, the only advantage to a high dollar custom is having it built to your personal likes. ie: wood choice and riser style. Many of the old "production" bows shoot just as well, have just as fine a finish and some beautiful wood/color combinations.
RER bows How bout a custom made RER? These are extremely smooth, quiet, accurate bows. The finish is outstanding. The best part is you can get them made to fit you. Custom made one at a time to the exact specs you want. Check out their website RERbows.com. I have yet to shoot a smoother bow. The great part is your not paying an extra 300-400 dollars to help pay for the company's advertising. Your getting top notch for a great price. Give em a try.
I don't really have any new bows on my want list. I would like to own an original Schafer and a few more Adcock's.
I've owned 2 Predator recurves and I could kick myself for getting rid of them. I plan on owning another Predator one day. Ron Pittsley is a great fella to deal with also. I would also like to try the Hoyt Buffalo bow.
i love nearly everything about my black widow its 64" 62# @ 30" it wasnt made for me so its a bit longer then my liking but a purchase im super happy with, something thats peaked my interest alot are these short bows i've been seeing i finally got to shoot one today it was made by bear im not sure the exact length but im 5'8 and it only came up to my belly button when strung i release with 3 fingers under and i had no issues with any finger pinch at all, only with bow torque it was a bit difficult to keep as steady as im used to with my much larger widow but it was smooth, very fast, decently quiet for not having any type of silencing stuff on it so i could imagin it could be made super quiet and it felt like it packed just as much punch as a full sized bow of similer weight. i love the size of these things though seems like you could get into some serious cover with almost no trimming for bow clearence. Does anyone have experience using these "short bows", whats your opinion? im really considering buying one.
It was most likely a Super Mag 48 or a Kodiak Magnum. I have a Kodiak Magnum since the early 70's. As you have found out shooting a very short bow they can be unstable. They are excellent bows and are good shooters, you just have to get used to them.
I would like to find a Jeff Massie takedown recurve in the 50lb range. Own a Longhorn longbow and 1 piece recurve, need to complete the set !
Last Black Widow I had I paid $250.00 new. Think it was in 1972 or 73. They sure have gone up. I really don't yearn for a high price bow these days. I just got back into recurves after about 40yrs with wheels and started back with a lower price range bow. However, it's a shooter and am well satisfied with it. Quinn Stallion 64" recurve 48lbs.
Somebody here really wants a HH style longbow, left handed. 66" long and 46# @ 26". Right?? Let me know. I can't shoot this one anymore.
That was alot of money back in 1972. Minimum wage was $1.60/hr....gas was 0.21/gallon so it's all relative :-) . But my wishlist bow would probably be a 64" ACS CX 3-pc,53#@28"
