Alright guys I hit a nice 10 pointer last night, it was 20 yard shot broadside looked to be right in the heart but I didn't get a whole lot of penetration. The deer ran about 40 yards and stopped and stumbled a bit then ran another 60 and stumbled some more then he took off. came back an hour later to look for blood and after seeeing small patches we saw my lighted nock sticking straight up in the air and a while belly so we got to about 80 yards away in the deer picked up his head and looked at us then slowly crawled across the creek and slowling went into the thick woods and didn't run, he looked to be in pretty bad shape. So we pulled out. I think I may have clipped the edge of the shoulder blade. Do you guys think this deer is dead or alive?

He will be within 40 yds of where you last saw him.

If he didn't run off, he's dying. Can't wait to see pictures. Congrats on your first deer - looking forward to the story!

I agree with everyone. He'll be dead very nearby. Give him some time. Hopefully the yotes don't find him first.
