I got my tracking lantern ready to go today. I finally located highly sought after globe light deflector. It seems like they are hard to find. They say lantern light is the best type of light to track blood in. Can't wait to try it out!
Brad, you are not going to need that tracking lamp when you send your arrow through the boiler room of one of those nice bucks! They are going to be dead within sight!
Ah yes, that makes sense. :D I need to buy a new globe for my lantern. Thinking about getting the wire mesh instead of glass since I've already broken two globes. GFY Camp...where did you come across your reflector? I just found some on Coleman's website. Thanks for the post. I'm going to invest in one of these.
I bought mine at the local Cabela's store. I looked online (minus the coleman store) and had a heck of a time finding them. How much do they want from the coleman store? I think I paid $13 or something. I've heard lantern light illuminates blood better than any other light. Can anyone vouch for that?
It was $13 or $14 on their site as well. I have a propane Coleman and I'm not really impressed with it. The base easily comes off (when you don't want it to). I'm liking the looks of yours....might go that route.
The white gas lanterns are far cheaper to operate, work better in very cold weather, go longer between fill-ups and likely will last longer in the long run. They also cost more up-front. Right now Finch I would get the dual fuel lanterns that you can run on either unleaded gas or whitegas. Mine is about 12 years old before they made "dual fuel" lanterns. If you are the type of guy that only would use it once or twice a year it probably would never pay for itself to get a white gas one and Propane would be a better option. If you use your lanterns quite often for camping and hunting then a white gas lantern is the way to go no doubt. http://www.summitcampinggear.com/codufu2lawca.html
