First off, have you done this? Secondly, what is the best way to start them? Should you train to track blood or to track scent? I would think that you would want them to track blood, so that you have less of a chance that they will run deer on their own.

My dad has a 4 month old lab pup that he has been working with a lot. When he bought it this was the one area that he really wanted to use the dog. I thought I would see if anyone here has experience if this kind of tracking.

It is a joy to watch a good tracking dog work. I really recomend the book "tracking dogs for finding wounded deer" by John Jeanneney.

I have thought about it, but never got around to it. I think my German Shorthair Pointer will be able to track a deer though, he seems like he can smell blood on anything. I am planning on testing him out on my next tracking job.
