What do you use for a light source when you are tracking after dark. I mean if you are following a sparse blood trail, not following a trail of blood you could see with the light of a Bic lighter.

I am asking because I have a kid at work that hit a deer yesterday evening and said he didn't find blood using a flashlight. He took a couple hours off work this morning and found some blood but hasn't found the deer yet. We'll be going out after work to hopefully recover it.

Anyway, I use an old single mantle Coleman lantern that burns white gas. It puts light on the ground that is just as bright as daylight in my opinion. I can't say I would have any luck tracking using a normal flashlight. It just isn't bright enough to spot those little bity droplets that are hard to find.

Just curious what you all would be using.

In the past flashlights and rechargeable spots. We plug in the spots as soon as we get to the cabin to get them ready for the first night if we need 'em. My dad just bought one of these. I'll try to come back and give a review if we ever use it.

I use a Coleman Lantern for the not easy to see with a flashlight blood trails. I always have one ready to go. I taped extra mantles to the bottom in case I take a spill (I learned once). It also make field dressing easier.

Coleman lantern. EVERYONE should have one for tracking at night. I haven't seen a light compare to these even close. Its also nice to have a big beam with to shine ahead once in a while.

The white gas causes phosphorus in the blood to glow because of the light wavelength. Makes blood stand out.
