I came across a track this weekend I don't have a clue what animal it belongs to. It's small game, I know that much. It has 3 toes/claws going forward and possibly one going backward?

The only likely candidate I can think of would be a badger (but then again, I have no idea what their feet look like). In fact, that didn't even cross my mind until one walked right under my stand Friday evening (the first one I have ever seen in the wild). When you first see it your first thought may be some sort of bird, but I am pretty much positive that it is not. You could clearly see the "pad" part of the tracks on some of them.

    What do you guys think?

I'm leaning towards a hawk or predatory bird of some sort.

If it were a predatory bird, there would be talon indentations. I voted for a fat footed turkey with long spurs.

Judging by the 'coon track next to the prints.. it looks like a fairly smallish bird. I vote for a plain old crow. (not to be confused with those fancy crows)

Or it could be a bambiraptor* that has escaped from some ultra secret government labratory. You'd be in danger, but I'm guessing that the bobcat ate it. (of course that might just be a housecat track in the second photo, in which case, the bambiraptor ate the cat and you are in danger.)

*honestly, I didn't make that name up.

What part of the country were you in when you saw them? If you were in Oklahoma I'm positive its an armadillo. I see a bunch of them.

Armadillo? That's not nearly as cool as a bambiraptor.

I do believe you've nailed it tho'.

You southerners with your weird critters. ;)

Yeah, they're armadillos. Fun to shoot but hard on arrows the way they hop around after a shot! Try for a pass-thru, don't try to pin them! lp

Armadillo? We certainly have tons of them around, but I didn't know theri tracks looked like that. I thought they were really small and "claw-sih". Oh well, shows how much I know:d

Hogwire, you're right they are good target practice:d. I have made the mistake more than once of not getting a passthrough. You can kiss that arrow goodbye!

I stand corrected. I had no idea armadillo feet looked like this.
