Me and my engineering team are hoping to improve upon a more visual attractive bow hunting arrow. There is one that already exists that we want to make more visually attractive to the general bow hunting public please answer this survey as soon as you can i greatly appriciate it.

    1. Do you own a bow and arrow(s)? Yes/No
If yes continue on, if no stop here.
    2. Do you use them for:
    A. Target practice B. Hunting C. Archery D. other
    3. How many arrows do you loose on a regular basis per hunting trip and/or practice?
    A. 1 B. 2 C. more D. none
    4. What percentage of your time is lost during hunting and practicing when you have to search for an arrow?
    A. 25% B.50% C. 75% D. more than 75%
    5. How much money do you loose on a regular basis from lost arrows?
    A. $20 B. $40 C. $60 D. more
    6. Would you be willing to pay extra money for an arrow you can trace faster?
    Yes or No
    7. If yes to #6, then how much more than the cost of an ordinary arrow would you be willing to pay?
    A. $10 more B. $15 more C. $20 more D. over $20 more
    8. (Optional) Do you have any suggestions/preferences that would make the arrow more easily traced? If so, please share idea(s) in blanks below

    1) I am not looking for a sexy arrow
    2) I am not paying $120-$240 MORE dollars for 12 arrows just because they are "more visual"

Find a way to make a small GPS tracking devise or a transmitter and a receiver to help find arrows after a shot on an animal and I may be interested and even still it would depend on the price.

This, and I'm not giving you ideas that you can develop and sell.

What isn't sexy about the current arrows anyways?

What I find attractive in an arrow is a consistant spine, consistant weight and consistant straightness with extra emphasis on consistant spine on every arrow made by the manufacturer. Make that arrow and I will be interested in spending money, even extra money.

What I will NOT spend money on is marketing crap. Don't waste time on visually attractive, spend time on functionally attractive.

    1. Yes
    2. Do you use them for:
    A. Target practice B. Hunting C. Archery D. other - All the above
    3. How many arrows do you loose on a regular basis per hunting trip and/or practice?
    A. 1 B. 2 C. more D. none - typically none
    4. What percentage of your time is lost during hunting and practicing when you have to search for an arrow?
    A. 25% B.50% C. 75% D. more than 75% - About 1%
    5. How much money do you loose on a regular basis from lost arrows?
    A. $20 B. $40 C. $60 D. more - Assuming regular is annual, $26, however, that is due to broken, not lost
    6. Would you be willing to pay extra money for an arrow you can trace faster?
Yes or No - Depends on the rest of the arrows (See Brucelanthier's post)
    7. If yes to #6, then how much more than the cost of an ordinary arrow would you be willing to pay?
    A. $10 more B. $15 more C. $20 more D. over $20 more - $5 maybe, only need them for hunting and have lit knocks
    8. (Optional) Do you have any suggestions/preferences that would make the arrow more easily traced? If so, please share idea(s) in blanks below - Isn't this your portion to fill in?

Good luck. Most people on this board will be more concerened with arrow specs and exeperience than the looks. Also, once you get past rookie mistakes, you rarely loose an arrow. I don't think I actually lost a single arrow at all last year, broken, yes. Lost, no. However, when I was starting out, I lost a handful of arrows in the dirt and they were burried. Had to use a metal detector on them. I also used arrows from Wal Mart I was getting at $2-$5 and that was an amazing deal for what they were being used for.
If you had an arrow that was easily traceable in hunting conditions, was reusaeable, and as Bruce said above, was a good arrow, then you might be on to something. Knocks with lights are coming along but can still be inconsistent.

the arrow isnt more visual attractive i should say then its the same technology just the orignial design threw off the balance of the arrow a little bit and disrupted the flight pattern. does this make more of you want to answer the survey to help us see who the targeted market is for the distribution of this arrow.

i need this class to graduate so if you all would stop being *******s and just help me out to find out what a hunter looks for in an arrow and would they be willing to pay a little bit more extra money to obtain it id appriciate it. ur not going to hit your target everytime so why not spend a few more bucks to be able to find the arrow when you miss no matter how experienced an archer you are. and to mr. bigstick im not poster im not a hunter i perosnally think hunting is cruel sport just killing an animal for the heck of it is a horrible way to pass your time but if thats what you choose to do then so b it im not going to judge you as a person. to mr. brucelantheir this is not marketing crap if it would i wouldnt be asking for your honest opinion whaw you mentioned will be apart of the requirements for this arrow but also an arrow that you dont have to worry about tracking down without any help is what we are aiming for however there are arrows like this out there but they give away the element of surprise because they have this big hulking tracking device in the front we are trying to avoid this and make the device smaller so you can still track it with a GPS but have the animal you hunted attached to it not running from it. hopefully this will help you understand more of what we are trying to do and what i am asking you.

That would be illegal in many states for hunting purposes. Just saying...

We do NOT kill animals "just for the heck of it". Only and imbecile would think that. You should try and learn your audience a tiny bit if you want to sell to them. You might learn that the majority of the time the arrow does NOT stay in the animal so your "tracking device" would lead me right to the fletchings that I see sticking out of the dirt where I shot the animal. Right now I would not buy **** from you.

Oh, and if you really want to graduate you should learn grammar, punctuation and spelling. you couldn't graduate from elementary school right now.

Play nice people or this thread will go Bye-bye!!! :argue:

Huntingchic13 since these are your first posts and your knowledge of bowhunting is a little suspect, you have to expect some smart alec remarks. Most of these guys have been doing this a looooong time and know what they like and most likely already have it.

Please make it and the OP go Bye-bye!!! If he is going to come on here and call names and act like he did in that post, he had no business being on here. Now, if he was here trying to learn about his "customer" and what they wanted, that would be different. Maybe try and start over OP. Maybe something like:

High, my name is _ _ _ _ _ . I know nothing about hunting but, I have a project for a class I am trying to pass so that I can graduate. Would you guys mind helping me out?

That would have been much more help to us to know and we wouldn't have minded helping you. As an Engineer you will be in some sort of management position. I know this because I am an adult student who is an engineering major and I also have experience in working with engineers. One thing you may want to take from this posting is that if you don't show respect to people no matter who they are or the positions they hold in an organization, you will not get the results you wanted. Good luck on getting anyone on here to participate in your serve now. Also, good luck with this project and I wish you luck in your professional career.

    E- a couple bucks tops!
    8. I guess really nothing out of the ordinary that is already on the market except for a higher quality arrow that looks sexy as well in the color scheme I desire.

Huntingchic13- i dont really know where to start. I've been in your shoes, took engineering classes for 4 semesters, ended up going the business route, while my buddies struggled with their Senior Projects for Engineering. I'm assuming you're a Mechanical Engineering Major? and by the sounds of it, a little stressed.

You jumped down the throats of some extremely knowledgeable Bow Hunters/Archers/Bowyers. When they give you a response that is long winded and full of what they like to see in an arrow, they MEAN IT.

Your lack of knowledge for the industry and the market has made you look like a fool, a childish fool. so because you are an engineering major that does math, I'll help you out with the market research that you would have done as a business major.

An expensive arrow that guys around here shoot is in the $10-$15/shaft range, add in another $5-$8 for a broad head and we're talking around $20 for the average hunting arrow used by serious bowhunters (some could be in the $30s but no solid business plan targets <.5% of a population). your survey asks if someone is willing to pay an additional 10-20 or more per arrow for your product, would you pay $20 for the warranty on a $20 item? would you pay $10 for the warranty on a $20 item that is more than possibly broke when you do retrieve it? So, assuming you miss your target and that arrow dives into the ground its going to be within feet of where you aimed, maybe it skids along the ground and is buried an inch or so in the dirt, its still probably within 10 feet of where you aimed. Do you know how accurate modern day GPS tracking signals are? 40ft of proximity is a good GPS, 20 ft is great GPS- they aren't designed for finding a needle in a haystack. Well great, the Gps has managed to get me to within 20 feet of where I shot the arrow, I already knew where that was... If for instance the arrow did stay in the animal in-which it was intended you may have yourself a product worth looking at for the purpose of finding the animal, at that point we really dont care much about the arrow. However like mentioned before this would possibly make use of the product illegal in many states, and most definitely for entry of the game animal into any record book. Another thing to note is that when shooting an animal, Deer for instance, you are hoping to achieve a complete pass through. This gives you an entry and exit wound in which a better blood trail is evident for tracking purposes. A complete pass through results in the arrow sticking out of the ground roughly where you aimed.

I understand that as an engineering major it's not your job to do the market research to evaluate the potential sales opportunity, you simply design and provide. but you did half a** an attempt to create a survey with half a** researched questions, so the answers you receive may be HALF A**.

    1. Do you own a bow and arrow(s)? Yes/No

    2. Do you use them for:
    A. Target practice B. Hunting C. Archery D. other All of the above
    3. How many arrows do you loose on a regular basis per hunting trip and/or practice?
    A. 1 B. 2 C. more D. none 1 or 2 a year between hunting and practice.
    4. What percentage of your time is lost during hunting and practicing when you have to search for an arrow?
    A. 25% B.50% C. 75% D. more than 75% 1 % in otherwords insignificant
    5. How much money do you loose on a regular basis from lost arrows?
    A. $20 B. $40 C. $60 D. more $10-$20 a year
    6. Would you be willing to pay extra money for an arrow you can trace faster?
Yes or No Tracing and tracking-down are two different things in this industry, tracing is mid-flight as far as we are concerned, and yes we LOVE traceable arrows in flight
    7. If yes to #6, then how much more than the cost of an ordinary arrow would you be willing to pay?
    A. $10 more B. $15 more C. $20 more D. over $20 more Less than $10, you are designing a "value added" product, like I mentioned before people dont buy $20 insurance on a $20 item
    8. (Optional) Do you have any suggestions/preferences that would make the arrow more easily traced? If so, please share idea(s) in blanks below
design a simple, light wight, cheap, metal detector that can fit easily in a backpack, I PROMISE you such a product will sell in this market, and I wont even ask for a royalty check :)

I'm sure some of that came off a little rough in places, but quite honestly you're not going to get sh** for feed back from anyone on this site due to your reaction. I hope you have reached out with other market research elsewhere... just a little side note, dont belittle or look down upon your target audience/market when trying get information/sell a product. Expressing your opinion of hunting on this site was like the CEO of Rock Star energy drinks stating that anyone who drinks his products is an idiot because they are bad for you.
    good luck with your project.
