I wasn't going to go there but this is my question as well. We have rolled a truck with a jack knifed trailer, but not with a disconnected trailer...

Not to say your wrong about Toyota, but everything is pos when something breaks. In the course of working for my buddy in his concrete construction buisness we've had junk trucks from all the big three. Two dodges were the biggest piles you'd ever seen and one ford and one GM. We are not very easy on trucks by no means but every time one breaks down its a pos. Even the two we got now are junk sometimes. And they've been pretty good 90% of time.

Well I didn't vote for Obama and I'm not a liberal or everything else you called Toyota owners. Toyota makes some of the best, most durable vehicles out there. That is very obvious when you look at comparisons between Toyota, Chevy, Ford, etc. If you deny that, your blind. NOBODY out there making anything has a 100% perfect manufacturing record. There will be lemons. With that being said, hitches are normally installed by the dealer. I wouldn't be blaming Toyota, I would be blaming the dealer and whoever installed the hitch.

I have no problem going there. But, I'll reserve further comments until Clyde explains how it's physically possible for the hitch falling off to cause the truck to roll.

I don't have a Toyota truck, but I do have a 4runner that I got for my wife earlier this year. We both love it. The next truck that I get will be a Toyota. Everybody around here that owns one really likes them and used ones sell really fast. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with your friends truck.

Is it possible that instead of the hitch breaking causing the truck to roll that the truck was rolled causing the hitch to break?

Maybe because they freaked out and when they turned to look at what was going on behind them, they ran off the road and flipped.:what:

Too much weight for that toy truck to handle, the truck just gave up and flipped over.

That's what I was thinking about the rolling. Which if that was the case I'm not sure I'd be blaming the hitch or the make of truck. Otherwise I'm not sure how else the hitch breaking would cause the roll over unless there were other things goin on first.

you know i think the story is a half truth or something. However, i will state, the having owned a 2008 tundra crewmax 4x4 with the 5.7 and having it bought back from Toyota from being a lemon, I would be hesitant to recommend another Toyota for now. The latest "refresh" they did which was supposed to be a re-design was really more like a mid cycle refresh. The big three really know how to build trucks and as the owner of an f150 crew cab 4x4 lariat, I can say my Ford is more capable as a tow vehicle. Even on the new Tundra there is no integrated trailer brake controller and sway control. The Ford, Chevy and Ram all have the stability built into the ECU, it make a big difference towing a trailer. Of course new engine options like the ecoboost, ecotech and the small diesel all show that the domestics are committed to the half ton market. Toyota punted on the Tundra and the engine, drivetrain and lack of integrated trailer controls and no HD models, show that they are content with soccer dads and weekend vehicles. I own toyota SUV's so I am not a brand loyalist, just my two cents in the half ton market.
