Totally stinks! Found some great deer and they are off limits to everyone!

Well I picked up a new Sony Handycam a few days ago and have had it with me every second since then. Figuring you never know when a good opporuntiy to film will present itself. Today on my drive home from work I decided to go through a neighborhood near mine that has lots of woods. I ran across several bucks in velvet with one being a very nice buck. After dinner my daughter and I decided to drive that same route looking again. This time we came across a field that had 7 deer running around and playing. I managed to catch all the action on tape today but after doing some research I have discovered that all hunting is prohibited in this area. But definitely a trip that I will be making on a regular basis.

I am curious how big everyone thinks the second buck in the video will score. And is it that common to see bucks in velvet already missing an entire antler?

The video got compressed by Youtube during the upload but you can still see it.

Dang man, that's a big deer... I'm saying he'll go 150's at least. The bulbs on his main beams look like they still have some growing room. Sweet video man.

Yes it is, and from the truck... those window tripods are worth their weight in gold!! I learned my lesson after getting headaches looking at Antelope through a spotting scope trying to hold it with my hand at 50x.:bash:

How sure are you that they are off limits? Ya gotta try, all they can do is say yes or no.

Long Grove prohibits hunting of any kind within village limits. You would need to be on unincorporated land. This is the legal issue. I know of several people who hunt Long grove on some of the larger (10ac+) properties.

You going to film down crawford at all? If so and you get a chance ive been seeing one that might hit the 200 this coming fall
so see if you can get him on film would be cool. (Near the 3 way stop just south on east side)
I believe you seen him last fall right around that area also.

Ferg, awesome work man. That first one, I would guess had been hit by a vehicle and that's how he lost the antler and the patch of hair on his back. That second one "Hitler" is a pretty amazing piece of meat and bones. I don't think I would be able to sleep at night. On the third, I noticed you were having trouble focusing, if you look at the bottom righthand side of your screen there is an icon there with a little plus sign and some lines. Hit that and then switch in to manual focus and guess the distance, took me a while to realize this.
On the fourth, were you shooting in night vison plus? I am just curious if you were, if you have the same version of the Sony HandyCam as me. I love mine and don't think that there is a better camera out there for the money. Have you bought a tree arm for it yet? The spotting scope mount would be killer in the truck and I'd have one if my fields were beans this year and I could film where I hunt. Cool vids man...looking forward to more of them.

I didn't realize that you can still hunt it if it is unincorporated land. I am pretty sure this area isn't but I will definitely look into it. And I am sure this property is over 10 acres. I will let you know what I find out!

I just got an inexpensive camera as a toy to play with till I have the money to get my real good camera later this year. It is the Sony Handycam DCR-SX41. I haven't even had a chance to read the manual yet and couldn't figure out how to switch to manual focus while I was filming so thanks for the tip! I will definitely remember that next time!

As for the camera I really like it for the price. The video's got compressed when I uploaded them to YouTube so the version I have saved on my computer is much better. The tri-pod I don't think will work since I drive an SUV or car but I am definitely going to look at a window mount.

Thanks for all the comments guys! I am hoping to get more footage of Hitler soon. Will be headed back out today to try to find him again!

130 Inch or so I'd say on the 2nd buck, he's got some growing to do yet too (awesome g1's). How do you like the Sony Ferg? I'm going to be getting something for bear hunting this fall, I plan on doing some taping.
