    thanks Fitz!

maybe this is the place to ask. i don't even own a bow yet and need to buy some gear to learn on. is it better to just buy the cheapest thing i can get my hands on for starters? or is it easier to learn on better gear?

any and all advice is appreciated.

It depends on your situation & budget.

I would recommend going to a local archery pro shop. They should have a number of different bows and brands to try out. They can even help you with your shooting form.

You can go to a big box store like Cabelas or Gander Mountain, but it has been my experience that the people working the archery departments in those stores know little in comparison to a solely archery shop.

Most bows made today are good, and can be made to shoot well, but some will just feel better to you.

Good luck and keep asking questions, there are a lot of knowlegable folks here!

Thanks y'all - glad to be here!

Thanks Fitz, that sounds like great advice.

I have been to Cabela's and felt a little overwhelmed.

I just found a local shop and gave them a call, they have lessons and everything - I'll be checking them out asap :woot:

My sister has lived out in San Jose since '89. I've visited her twice since then...when I'd talk folks would look at me like...WTH??? I'd tell 'em I was from Mississippi and they would have no clue. Teach them folks a thing or two would ya!

so i went to a local shop today. they were super helpful and even have an archery range inside. had me shooting a couple of bows, back and forth until we figured out the right one and got it mostly sighted in. they spent an entire hour helping me!

thanks again for the advice. i don't think i would have been able to set it up all by myself.

    it's lovely:
