Anyone have records for the county/units they hunt for total deer population per square mile, or buck/deer harvest per square mile?

Just curious what others see in their neck of the woods.

We are just under 100 per square mile. The DNR Survey info is really goofy here, so they regulate the crap outta hunting. Lots of deer die in thier first year. Out Buck to Doe Ratio is WAY outta wack for some reason, but, it makes for lots O backstraps!
At least we have some big deer!
I dont know the buck harvest info, but i know that over 20 1.5 and 2.5 y/o deer plus a few decent 130+ 3.5 y/o's were killed last year on our 1400 area , and none of our real big ones fell.

IDK about the kill stats but the DPSM runs between 90 to 110 depending on the year you look at it.

Where are you guys getting this info of 100ish deer per square mile? Is this official info from your states game management organization, or a guess?

I've hunted in places with a lot of deer, but never personally seen anything above roughly 30 deer per square mile. I can't fathom 100+.........and I'm curious if these are guesses or actual data, and if actual data.......who did the measuring.

11.2 dpsm at our hunting camp near raystown lake. haha in 2006 the one area i hunt had 5.8 dpsm. This is per DNCR. Our property has probably 20-25dpsm, purely a guess. And by the way for those that dont know, 640 acres is a square mile

I hunt a large military base in Northern Virginia. There are around 45,000 huntable acres. The wildlife biologists estimated our entire herd being around 5,000 deer. That would be 9 deer per square mile. However, the last few years out overall herd has lowered due to a concentration on taking out the does. They have recently estimated our deer herd to be slightly lower, or around 8-8.5 deer per square mile.

Our rut intensity is picking up, yet on many days I do not see a deer. In fact, in 2007 I saw around 15 deer the entire season. In 2008 I saw 30-35 deer the entire season.

Somethings up with that math or i'm really confused. You're sittin on 70 square miles (640acres = sq mile) with 5,000 deer. Thats 71.4dpsm. Thats a **** ton of deer.

My dad is The Director of the county park district, they do air surveys and damage surveys yearly, he also does consulting for the DNR so i have a pretty solid base of study. They actually did a tagging study in a local area that is between two cities its only 3 square miles and almost 400 deer were confirmed

I t is fairly regular to see groups of 30 deer here, we do drives in gun season, on a single 240 acre block we moved 46 deer. its pretty thick around here, i wish we had the doe harvest laws of some other states

well, yeah, my dad works there lol
geauga park district is close too!

southern geauga county and parts of lake and ashtabula are some of the most amazing deer land in the state as far as i am concerned, we really are blessed with a plethora of opportunity in the out of doors, not just deer, but fishing, waterfowl and small game as well

you can look across any given plowed field and see the Browse line cut a yard into the woods 4 ft tall.

Fast, you are correct, I totally blew the math because my brain turned acres into miles. :)

Quantico has about 45,000 huntable acres. The overall base harvest last year was 650. Some years it has been as high as 1000 deer harvested on 45,000 acres or so. For some reason I got 5,000 total deer in my head. Not really sure of the overall herd size. I will try to look it up. I can tell you this however. When I first started hunting Quantico, I averaged seeing 60-80 deer per year, or more. The last 3-4 years I have seen about 1/3rd of that number. That difference has corresponded to a really pumped up doe management system on the base. Our overall kills numbers are almost 50/50 bucks to does.

Where I hunt we are at 86 dpsm with only 15.1 harvested and only 5.0 being bucks. This sounnds good to me, but I never see that many deer which leads me to believe that either I can't find them or they are unhuntable.
