OK guys its time for me to break down and buy a camera. I don't know crap about them. I don't want to spend a ton. I want a camera that will take pics on trails so I'll need good shutter speed. I also worry about night time flash. I don't want to spook our already highly pressured deer. I'm not sure I want infra-red flash. Is there a camera I can just turn the flash off or on as I choose? So far I've been thinking about a Cuddeback Capture. What does the BHC braintrust suggest?
I had the cudde back and it took great pictures, and then batteries kept go dead in like three weeks. I have an SC550 which as soon as it gets cold it takes a lousy picture or none at all. I am buying another camrea and I am getting the Bushnell Trophy Cam. Justin has given this camera a good review and it's at aprice point I like.
The Moultrie I-40 is a great camera for the price if you don't mind B&W pics at night from the IR mode. Batteries last 4-6 months which is great. Not the fastest trigger for shooting across a trail but at a scrape or bait it would be great. http://www.bowhunting.com/shopping/Products/Moultrie-I-40__2361.aspx Here is a review I did a while back. http://www.bowhunting.com/blog/post/2008/09/29/Moultrie-I40-Review.aspx
I dont knwo much about IR, i just purchased my first one, an i40. Ill have to wait a few monthes to pass judgement. I was very impressed with my Cuddeback Capture flash this year though.
I picked up the Cuddeback Capture right around Christmas and so far I love it. My Moultrie M40 hasn't seemed to spook any deer (it has a flash) in NE Texas or Oklahoma. The land surrounding the land I hunt in Ok gets pressured pretty hard....... BTW, if your going to put a camera up on a feeder then look into the Wildgame Innovations cameras. I read a few reviews and they'll do enough to get the job done. You can pick one up for around $40 bucks. I plan on buying a couple this year just to put on feeders.
I've had good luck with the Capture Flash, the trigger speed is great and the picture quality is very good. I usually get around 6-8 weeks out of a set of batteries, one camera has been out around 5 weeks in very cold weather. The flash doesn't seem to cause problems on my properties, many times I get multiple pictures at a time of the same bucks and does.
