I bought a broken early 90 model browning mirage hunter compound bow for $50. I had to get a new string put on it and got it back today and shot it for the first time. I bought it for target shooting in my backyard since I live in the city and can't shot my guns.

First question is there any way to lighten the draw weight cause it must be maxed out at 70lbs and that is too much for just target shooting. I bought a cheap walmart bow target and the arrows go through it 3/4 of the way at 15yrds.

Also the arrow rest on it, is that arrow just supposed to sit on the metal bands? The problem Im having is when I go to full draw the arrow just falls off the side of the rest(pic below of rest). How do I fix this?

Thanks for the help, go easy on me cause today was the first time I EVER shot a bow and I hit the target everytime.

the limb bolts on each end of the riser connecting the limbs to the riser you should be able to back them out about 4 or 5 turns to get to the desired draw weight. the rest should also have allen head screws, where you can adjust the width of the prongs. which if you widen them out some they will hold the arrow better.

Had a bow just like that when they were new. Killed many whitetails with it. Good all around bow. Only draw back for me was the let off. Have fun with it!

Multi quote function does not work on this forum for some reason.

Thanks for all the help, Im going to take the bow to my local bow shop and have them show me where and how to adjust the draw weight.

That rest is designed for fingers and it should be shot with the cock vane out. That would explain why the arrow is falling off. Either go to fingers or invest in a new rest.

Those Cheap targets aren't much and you will blow through them in a very short time. You will need to replace it with some type of bag target(morrel makes some great ones but they can get pricey)in the near future.

The poundage is easy. Just back out the limb bolts equal amounts on each limb. Don't go too far,or the bolts will come out,but you should be able to go several turns.

Make sure when you turn the bolts on the end of the limbs back that you turn them both the same ammount. turn the top one back a full turn then the bottom.. to keep an even pull on the string or it might shoot oddly and when it comes to your rest I would spend $30 and get a whisker bisket. full arrow containment

Carl, My dad shot a whitetail 2 forever, I shot a bear kodiak compound recurve, Now Im shooting the anarchy and my dad is shooting the carnage, we got his whitetail 2 out and he was shooting it compared to the carnage, man have bows came a long way is all I can say, you could darn near race the arrows to the target it seems off of that whitetail 2, he killed lot of deer with it though.

The view of the rest looks like it has a serious overdraw. If the arrow is falling off...you are in danger of hurting yourself if your not careful. Maybe you are straining to draw and causing the arrow to move off of the rest? You should follow the advice here and back out the limb pocket bolts. You should also seriously consider using a full containment rest. A whisker biscquit should do the trick and not hurt your checking account too bad.

Ask the pro shop you are going to for advice, and mention the issue with the arrow falling off.
