I am not dismissing it. The rules were in place and broken. You do not see me saying the kids shouldn't be suspended do you? No where will you see me saying that. What I said, is it is ridiculous that these kids are in trouble for selling their stuff. Rules were broken, kids are punished... I am OK with that. I just do not think you should get in trouble for selling your own stuff. I do not lose any sleep over sports either. I did lose sleep over a lost deer last year though....
All the other bs aside tressel is in trouble. PTI guys were reading quotes from his book. It's not good for him at all buckeye. Now I have to head to Ann Arbor, we are dancing in the streets.
What I am laughing at is all the, its only tatoos and they should be paid anyway, he knew nothing and etc etc etc..and I am in no way calling anyone in particular out, BUT you guys wanted to hang Nick Saban because he grey shirts players or medical redshirts them with the opportunity to transfer, even though almost every school does it. At that time it was Alabama and most SEC schools do it more so it is bad. Now we have a coach who has lied, been caught and then had a press conference with no apology and it is simply because tOSU is top tier and has a bulleye etc...I don't buy it. You can research it, I am no SEC homer, I am a huge bama fan, and the only reason I mentioned them at all is to show the hypocrisy in this thread. Tressel is Calipari, alot of smoke over the years and this could be the fire that burns him down. I hope not, because I do not feel he has done ANYTHING (comparatively speaking) that any other coach has done, he simply got caught.
He wrote a book on character, it has some great lines on what to do when one gets themselves in these types of situations. Tressel did not follow his own advice. What is it with OSU coaches ruining their legacy at the end of their careers?
This is the newest thing going around.... Not sure how true it is yet. "Just stated on air that he has heard from his sources in tOSU that Tressel was asked by the FBI not to say anything and it will be produced in the coming days."
The Saban deal is different to me, I am against these Universities playing games with these student athletes futures. I believe if you offer a scholarship, you honor it.
Sure he was. If that was true, it would have been said. There would be no need to punish tressel. You do realize he signed a compliance form from the NCAA in dec that he knew nothing about the tat 5?
I guess it is just difference of opinion. This is big business, the same business that makes a team grey shirt is the same business that makes a coach lie to his school even though that part of his contract is underlined. I would think if the FBI made him stay quiet, then that would have immediatly come to light before the press conference, suspension and fine.
I should also add that I agree, they are completly different, but you are supporting your coach the same as we do ours, that was my point.
I should add I am so excited that you guys are online and I can get in while this is live, I have to watch you bastages from the sideline while at work. by the time I get home the topic is cold and my thoughts are dead.
Even if it is true, he still broke NCAA rules by not reporting. Whether the FBI told him to be quiet or not. Either way, NCAA violation. I know all of the details on this, I know all about the compliance form.
I hear ya, Scott. And, I agree with you on honoring scholarships. THAT is legal (nullifying them). That's atrocious. Common ground.
Where was I naive? I never said he should not be reprimanded or anything like that. I just said the root of this problem, the selling of personal belongings is bogus.
lol...every coach in the country is dirty, just a matter of when the ncaa decides to bring down the gavel. You think Pete carrol all the sudden became dirty in the 2 months before he left. I love to see the hate, as i am sure michigan NEVER practiced too much until RR got there, but there was love for lloyd, and RR had none. I understand that is trivial, but you see my point.
And again, if you sold your Grand-daddy's shotgun he gave you, that was given to him, it'd be a disrespectful thing.... It's not like they are selling their CD's or Movies or their coveted sports card collection, they were selling Awards/Trophies given to them by the university. And if it's okay to sell them, then how are you gonna feel when Shoelace sells his cleats to a booster for $100k in trade to stay at U of M another season so he can get a SECOND win against tOSU in a couple years??? Rules are there for a reason, it's to keep a level playing field, in recruitment and retention. As I said before, they are given "ENOUGH," they should be walking a line, and be thankful for the opportunities afforded them. I wonder if any of them were part in the "SEVEN" players that had pre-existing police record prior to coming to tOSU....???? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/the_bonus/02/27/cfb.crime/index.html I personally couldn't imagine selling a trophy be it one I won as an athlete or one I killed with my bow. Not that anyone is going to give me anything for a Little League trophy anyhow, but there is some sentimental value that makes it worth keeping. I sure as hell ain't trading it for a tattoo.....
