You bow hunt...? I've never seen a pic with you with a bow in hand yet. All seriousness that really blows. I wish you a speedy recovery. Therapy after surgey will be most important to making a speedy / full recovery.
Any update on your status? Had an ultrasound done yesterday and it revealed a partial tear(25-50%) in the supraspinatus tendon(most commonly torn). The Dr. doing the scan was a bit reluctant to discuss it with me, probably normal procedure. My Dr.'s office did not call today, only thing I know is physical therapy date of 8/10 was scheduled before a tear was known. Not sure how hard it is to get a crossbow permit here in IL, especially 3 months ahead of the season but I picked one up anyway. Can use it after 2nd shotgun season without permit. Anyhow, just wondrring where you are in this since the timeframe from then to now matches pretty close to my now to then Your tear was a bit more than mine, as long as I don't injure it further.
Curious to what your doctor tells you. I messed my right shoulder up about 4 years ago ,never got it checked but my personal testing indicated rotator cuff, same symptom of not being able to raise my arm when stretched out. I attempted to draw my bow and was able, with a pretty healthy amount of pain. Than 2 years ago, I added to my problem by dislocating my left shoulder. So now they are both bad. My doctor said, at my age 44 at the time there is little surgically she could do to make it better. So another year of not bow hunting I was letting a friend who is just starting use my bow. One day I said, what the hell and picked it up and gave it a try and to my surprise, I was able to without pain. My brother also had problems with his shoulder for a number of years and had pretty much excepted it. when his doctor gave him a cortisone shot and he has been fine since. A lot of time, being able to let the inflammation go away solves a lot of shoulder problems.
I didn't have it checked for about 3 weeks. I thought I had jarred ot prrtty good and it would work itself out. Think I may have tweaked it again this past Monday, but no telling if I made it worse or not. Symptoms are when raising arm to the side, whether elbow extended or not, I could not raise it above parallel with my shoulder without significant pain whereas I can go much beyond with my left shoulder. Just got done shooting the crossbow about 5 times and can definitely feel the burning sensation, not going to attempt it for a few more weeks. If it doesn't improve by season start I will probably have to forego stand hunting this year and stick to the ground. There is no way I could climb up climbing sticks, possibly a ladder stand though. I'll be 41 in just under 3 weeks, the Dr. doing the scan said normally once you get close to or hit 50 they really don't even consider surgery as an option. Sounds like 100% recovery is rarely achieved, strroid shots can actually make it worse and PT alone rarely is sufficient. This really sucks!
Best of luck to you Tom. Pretty sure my left shoulder is partially torn as well. Been hurting bad for about two years now. However I can still draw my bow as it only hurts going up or back. I'm almost scared to get it looked at. Surgery=no work, no work=no money.
Dude, check on John Dudley from Nock On TV... He had the surgery recently and still killed several turkey and several bear this spring... He killed them by switching to a left handed bow, lowering his poundage, and drawing with his mouth, lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Crossbow it is, Dr. is filling out his part and then it is up to the IDNR I guess. Not sure what the approval process is like, never been through it or anyone that has here in IL.
Heck just go for it, sounds like DNR is gonna be little shorthanded this year ha. Seriously though that kinda sucks man, good luck hopefully it all goes through.
