I'm new to hunting the hills of Ohio, Alot different from the Florida swamps and hammocks. I have figured out the deer using benches but I am wondering if there are certain terrain features that deer prefer for escape routes into thick cover. I hunted a high bench this year and was successful during archery, but once the guns started firing up they quit using the bench horizontally and the deer I saw were coming up a steep draw and pausing at the top bench before hitting the thick 40 acres above and behind me. I also had a few cross at the creek before using a steep bank to go up. It just seems that they feed on the bench as long as there is little pressure. I'm looking for advice on key features to look for so I can scout from the house here at home and limit the time I have to spend stinking up the woods up north.
