I would like to take my dad on a nice hunting trip for his birthday next year and was looking for some opinions from everyone. We live in AL so one place I thought of was an early season hunt for a velvet buck in Kentucky or somewhere near by. Also thought about going out west for a shot at an elk. Thought might could use the elk hunt as motivation for us to get back in better shape physically. Anyone have any suggestions? Also if you know of any locations that would let us split the days we hunt where maybe we can take turns hunting and filming for each other. Not looking for shooting fish in a barrel kind of hunt just want to see other parts of the country and film some good animals.

Are you looking to hunt at an outfitter with a guide or public land?

It would probably be best with an outfitter because we probably won't have much free time to scout with work. Wouldn't be opposed to a good public hunt just don't want to spend a lot on out of state license and have chance of being messed up on public land not really knowing where to go.

You would probably be best with looking up a good outfitter for some elk. This will be a hunt you wont forget and also will get you guys into shape for the hunt like you want.

I am thinking hard about an elk hunt. Anyone have any recommendations on a good outfitter?

If you'll click the tab on the top of the page that says outfitters, BH.com has put only the best and top rated outfitters in that section that would be a great place to start looking.

Yea I've looked at those outfitters a little. Would love to hear anyone's first hand experiences with some of them.

Elk hunting success is either building points and drawing a great unit in Az (unit4a). NM, or NV. could take 12 years/points or get out your checkbook. OTC areas like Co. are just that. I would look at a NM. landowner tag or Wy. draw around the Wheatland area. $6-8k per hunter is the norm for 1/1 guided hunts.
A much less expensive and easy bowhunt is speed goats in Wy. Douglas area. Book goat is easy.
