That was an interesting test but that was about microdiameter shaft vs regular diameter shaft penetration. The 450 grains vs 470 grains is not a significant weight difference. Dr. Woods said as much. I do think he proved the point that microdiameter shafts will out penetrate larger diameter shafts with all other factors being equal.
The chart below shows the set ups I am tinkering with for next season. All arrows are 300 spine Black Eagle Renegades. The top line is my set up from the past two season. The highlighted arrows are builds that I have made and tested thus far. The other arrows are heavier options that I may consider if I am not happy with the current test options. Right now, I am really liking the 600 grain, 17.9% FOC arrow with the 75 grain brass insert and 150 grain point. It seems to fly really well out of my bow. I have been shooting out to 30 yards so far with the different builds. Weak spine has not been an issue thus far. I am hoping to have time to head to a local range to shoot further this weekend. 30 yards is the furthest I can shoot at home. Slower speeds with the heavier arrows have had no change on POI with the arrows out to 30 yards. I would expect that would start dropping off quickly at further distances.
