Who are, in your opinion, the top 5 front men in Rock and Roll history? Just out of curiosity, I think it would make for good music discussion.

    Here are mine, in order:

Freddie Mercury- Queen- I 'll argue with anyone he is one of, if not THE the best singers of all time of any genre.
Robert Plant- Led Zeppelin- Plant and Jimmy Page made a great team, but Robert Plant was the front man for the best rock and roll band of all time in my opinion.
Axl Rose- Guns N Roses- He is my favorite singer ever, easily. He is violent, has a terrible temper and many psychiatric issues and some accuse him of the break up of the original lineup. But as long as Axl sings, GNR will make amazing rock music.
Mick Jagger- Front man of the Rolling Stones, need I say more?
Bono- U2 has been turning out classic hits for years thanks to Bono's ability to create and experiment with different styles.

These are just my opinion but there are several other greats like David Lee Roth, Ozzy, James Hetfield, Steven Tyler, Springsteen.

Plenty I'd put in there before Axl Rose (Jim Morrison comes to mind).

Many around these parts would argue Ronnie Van Zant (lynyrd Skynyrd).

I'll agree with you on Freddie, though.

I'm 33. Some from my generation:

Kurt Cobain changed the music industry.

Vince Neil helped to define the rock lifestyle.

Brett Michaels ruled to hair bands.

Johnny Van Zant continues what his brother started.

I hear this all the time. Just what did Cobain do to change the music industry? I just don't get it.

Well he did bring alternative grunge music to the very forefront of the music industry in the 90's. Nirvana also inspired other bands like Alice In Chain, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and others from the Seattle area and helped bring them to mainstream. I would say Cobain and Nirvana had a major influence on the culture in the 90's.

Top 5 is a very tough one...
    5. Bon Scott/Brian Johnson
    4. Ozzy Osbourne
    3. Freddy Mercury
    2. Jim Morrison
    1. Without question...Robert Plant

This list could be huge though.

He brought alternative grunge music that died very quickly. I have a hard time believing that every band that you mentioned would not have made it without Cobain. Maybe I never gave the guy enough credit.

Do you remember the absolute garbage music that was mainstream in the late 80's?

When Nirvana hit MTV in the early 90's, it changed music, period. It was the absolute destruction of all hair bands. Opened the door for Pearl Jam, Bush, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, etc.

Easy. Pearl Jam and Nirvana started up about the same time. And, PJ was wildly more popular than Nirvana.

Nirvana was good for grunge rock. Let's leave it at that.

Lol, no. But I have listened to Nirvana and Cobain and don't really care much for either one. I really don't like grunge period, so that has a lot to do with it.

Was Cobain talented? Absolutely, but I don't think he's top 5 in rock n roll history, I'd put Vince Neil, Iggy Pop, Sebastian Bach, etc. ahead of him. I think a lot of the respect he has got is ill informed just because he passed away. I know that may make me sound like an a-hole, but whenever someone passes, its like they they are automatically put on an untouchable level, just because of their passing.

    You take that back!:poke:

GNR ruled the rock world in the late 80s and early 90s. Van Halen was still strong in the late 80s, Aerosmith, Metallica, Bon Jovi, U2.

The 80's were the ****. The music out of Seattle took the fun away and music went downhill and depressing:cry:
