Landon, I think # 5 and 6 are a wise move for you especially # 5 I had picked up a new lease this summer and it was just to thick to scout and come to find out about 40% is swamp ground. I only hunted it twice for whitetails.well since all seasons are out for a week here,I decided to do some scouting a couple days ago. I put in alot of leg work and walla, Really really learned alot just from that venture. I put some puzzle together that im sure will benefit me next year for sure. That late season scouting where you can still see the old sign and be able to look better at the terrain features since all the leaves are off is a Great tactic for when the season rolls around.
1. Hunt More 2. New Target 3. Reflech Arrows 4. Hunt More 5. Shoot More 6. Scout More 7. New Harness 8. New Ladder Stand 9. Kill a Deer 10. Hunt More
1. For the first time this year run Trail cams in Dec/Jan/Feb (running 2 right now) got an any elk and any deer tag left. Doe in Montana if I get over there during Christmas break! 2. Come Jan/Feb begin my shed hunting/scouting ritual and take that into June. 3. Move a few stands based on this seasons hunting and post season scouting. 4. Thinking about looking at a few Mathews bows. 5. Get a couple mounts done, maybe 3. 6. Buy a few more stands. 7. Boys and I are armed with snares now, gonna start trapping come Dec 14th. 8. Hopefully meet up with Joey this spring break for sheds and turkeys! 9. Kill a good spring bear. 10. Shoot a lot, especially my trad bows. Someday I am gonna kill something with one of them!
1. Set up and sight in my new bow 2. Focus more time on the quality property I have instead of finding greener grass next door 3. Set up some food plots, mineral licks, mock scrapes, and man-made funnels 4. Run my trail cameras 5. Identify bucks to target for next season 6. Clean up and sound proof my stands for next year 7. Hang stands for next year 8. Scout new properties that become available 9. Scout existing properties to identify doe bedding areas, buck bedding areas, travel corridores that aren't known, and learn as much as possible 10. Save some money for the taxidermist for that Pope and Young buck
I love late season hunting...so I have a while to think about this stuff...but really not much to do: -loosen straps on 8 ladder stands and that's about it concerning my whitetail hunting -might try to lease some property ...but I do plan for a 2010 Elk hunt and that will make for a fantastic off-season as I gather/purchase gear I need, daydream, and push my workouts even harder come summer so body is ready for anything.
well I still have til Jan 2 but Im seriously trying to get things in line for next season....just tired of waiting on deer to randomly show up...too many good bucks in my areas to rely on luck, gotta make it work for me.
