I was planning for an all day sit tomorrow, but it is going to be blowing 20 mph with gusts of 40. Is that too windy? I read somewhere that wind speeds are calculated on the top of buildings. What do you guys think? Sent from my SM-G950U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I was in the stand on an evening with 60mph gusts last week with the cannon. Didn't see a thing, but I'd do it again. Nothing beats being outside this time of year
You can move more on the ground, look for them in the bottoms of hollars. Killed a nice deer three years ago from behind a downed tree. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Hmm. Sounds more enticing than climbing a tree. I've been hunting from a blind all season and decided to try a different spot tomorrow which entails climbing. Sent from my SM-G950U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
If I remember right for correct reading a weather station is supposed be be about 3-4 ft. above ground level. Mine is up about 8 ft due to a lot of trees and buildings to the N, NE, & NW. The electronic temps you see at banks, schools, etc. have their transmitter on top of the building for the most part. Not always adjusted for the elevation. I like a light wind but not the 20 mph stuff. 3 stands and one ground blind. Timber is mostly in narrow strips or open patches of 12 -15 A or less. Or it is so darn thick one can't walk or move through it. Tried it shed hunting last spring. Shirt got tore up and so did I.
I’m out here in those same conditions. I chose I thicker area that has shelter from the cape wind . I set my stand down lower so I have less motion and more protection. Gun hunting I still hunt in high winds Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Shot my deer a couple weeks ago with three same conditions. Deer were moving all over and the wind allowed me to get deeper into the woods without my noise spooking them. Go for it Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I'm on the edge of a field up an oak. Definitely feeling it and swaying like crazy. Seeing some deer will make it all better Sent from my SM-G950U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
